I have finally acquired a used A77ii and know that it has an artificial horizon, but it did not come with a user manual, can anyone please tell me how to activate it please?

Its a great leap up from my A700 which I have had for 12 years and will still use

Thanks every one

You can get the A77II Help Guide here:

https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/a-mount-body-ilca-70-series/ilca-77m2/manuals

I haven't looked, but I assume the electronic level appears when you cycle through the options with the DISP button, as with other A-mount cameras.

I assume so. It does in my A77, but you might have to go into the menu to activate that as an option.

You will find that the A77ii is great leap indeed. I would highly recommend getting Gary Friedmans' guide to that camera. It's downloadable and is filled with all sorts of useful information. He will not only explain what a setting is, but will also what it does and why you would want to use it. It makes the learning curve much less steep.

Enjoy your new camera!

Try page 187 in the web manual.
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/W001/W0014493M.pdf
That bit allows you to set what options that are available to be used and once set you cycle through them using the "Disp" button on the camera.

Camera on / Menu - Setting (cog graphic) 2 / DISP button / Monitor or Finder (check) Level - Enter

or you can press the DISP button 4 o'clock to the joy stick, twice.

Got to make sure it's enabled for both the "monitor" and "finder", they are separate pages in the menu.
Then while using the viewfinder just hit the Disp button until the level comes up.

Edit: if all else fails I'd suggest a full reset of the camera back to factory settings. Always a well thought out thing to do with a secondhand body, rather than try to piece together what the previous owner had set and adjust it to your preference (no telling what he/she had dialed in) just wipe it and start fresh!
