Good news!!!!

After a couple of weeks with a rechargeable battery in and left switched on I just changed the battery and the camera remembered the day/date.

Also update, managed to find a VC-7D for £30 delivered. No box, looks brand new still got the AA battery tray and the contact cover. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

I started off with a used Minolta 7000AF film SLR in the 1990's .
The Sony a100 was my first DSLR when it first came out .
I bought the 7d partly as a backup and partly as the high ISO usage is nicer than the a100's .
The CCD rather than CMOS sensor gives different results than my a900 & a77ii .

It's a nice camera to use as well .

Regards recharging the internal battery .
I don't really know .
A few weeks perhaps ?
Maybe just a couple of days ?

With the A200 , it's my second one ( it was for sale on eBay for £15 , who could resist that ?! ) .
Certainly after a few days it still didn't hold enough charge to keep the settings when I changed the battery .
That was around the spring .
I noticed the other day when I had the battery out for a couple of minutes it retained its settings when I put the fresh battery in .
I then took it out for five minutes , and it didn't keep the settings .

Some cameras have a battery for this , some use a capacitor .
This might make a difference for a recovery .

Just want it as a second body, wanted one at release but couldn’t afford it then the Sony buy out and better spec models came out. Nostalgia much.

Only had it a week or so. Fresh battery in, how long you think for the internal to pick up charge?

I also have a universal power supply that could keep internal power running while I change battery as long as I do it in the house of course.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

How long have you had the camera ?

If it's been stored either without a battery in it , or a dead one , the internal battery will be depleted .
The main battery recharges the small internal one .

It's possible it might not need replacing , keep a fully charged battery in it might refresh it sufficiently do it's holds enough charge to keep the settings while you put a fresh battery in .

I have a Minolta Dimage A200 whose internal battery has more or less died as it hadn't had a battery in it for a while .
After keeping a good charged up battery in it , it now retains its settings in it long enough to keep the settings when a fresh battery is being loaded .
But only for a couple if minutes .
If the batteries out for five minutes , the camera needs resetting .

Cheers, will keep an eye out for them opening.

It was an £80 eBay punt, works perfectly but for the internal battery.

Thanks again.

Camera Repair Workshop on Milton Keynes would be your best bet .
They were the service centre for Minolta and still work on them .
http://www.camerarepairworkshop.co.uk/

Closed at the moment due to covid being a PITA , but will open again soon , hopefully .

A service manual can be found here ; https://learncamerarepair.com/product.php?product=284

But unless your competent at this sort of work , it's not a DIY job .
You could just as well end up with a brick .

Does anyone know of a service replacing the 7D internal battery?

I know it doesn’t take long to set date/time but, you know.
