The replacement for the 7D will be announced shortly. Should have been announced early December but then better late than never. As I stated earlier in another forum it will incorporate the new Sony 10.3 MP cmos sensor. It will be released at PMA. Also due out shortly to is the replacement for the 100-400AP0.

Happy New Year to everyone. Yes this will be a very happy year for everyone.

Oh, good news !!

And now, the usual questions :)

- is the body of the same size as 7D? Maybe the same grip will fit?
- Any news about the flash system? Can we expect some new flash guns in the near future?

Thank you for the news.

Well right now at least for the next few weeks I am limited to what I can say. To answer your question briefly, yes there is a new flash gun on the way if it is not released at PMA then later on in the year. Regarding the body size of the new 7D it is approx the same size as the existing one.

Well, I think this will convert me to a KM SEA believer ... I wouldn't have expected the 7D replacement so soon, and a 100-400 seems like an odd enough choice that not too many people would guess it to be the next lens to be released.

The 10MP sensor is interesting ... certainly makes KM sound more competitive on the surface. A nice camera for capturing detail, even if it proves to be a bit noisier than the current 7D. (Personally, I'll be happy to own my 7D for a while longer).

Speaking of noise, I shot a bunch at ISO 1600 over the holidays & even squeaked in some ISO 3200 ! They're obviously noisy (probably not in a small print) but who cares ? They're still *really* good for the lighting conditions. (That's without running them through any NR as of yet).

Thanks for the heads-up !

Thank you once again !
Now, when you find it appropriate, you could say few words about (possible) new firmware for 7D :):)
Sorry, i needed to ask :)... since i really hope for this update. I certainly won't sell my 7D, since it will be a part of DSLR history for sure ;)

I'd tend to think that a 7D firmware upgrade would have been likely if a 7DII were a "mere" upgrade of the same camera (i.e. same sensor, ala Nikon D70, D70s, D50, etc.) But with a new sensor, I'd suspect that any improvements made in the new model would require a double effort to reengineer them for the 7D firmware.

Yes Dennis you may be right, but I don't expect too much. I would be more than satisfied with those little improvements that KM has done on 5D;
- raw enlargements
- Zone matching option (i really hate the way KM has implemented this on 7D. What they have done on 5D is far more usable and convenient)
- increased bracketing steps (max 0.5EV step is very, very limiting IMHO, and should be changed)

Of course ,my wish (expressed here) list is far longer than this but even with just those I would be very happy :)

I agree that firmware improvements (not just bug fixes) are great for users and show a company's commitment to support. I'd welcome some of the changes you mention and all of them sound beneficial to some users. (I agree about HK/LK ... I keep thinking I ought to try it out, but it's one of the few things on the camera that isn't intuitive, so I haven't bothered yet).

This is good news, thank you for popping in here and sharing with us.

I wonder, will it be called the 7Dii or the 7Dn or the Sony 7D? Mmmm? Or the Sony 103?

And the 100-400 is a good range of lens to be replacing. Fast AF for sure, maybe faster too, how about f4 straight?

Welcome to Dyxum. I like Minolta lenses!

Interesting news this, I´m looking forward to see this thingie =) And as I probably can´t afford to buy the replacement body, a 7D firmware upgrade sounds like a nice treat =)

Is there any chance Minolta will be reintroducing the 400 mm f:4.5 as a "D" model?

Great news!

I've recently traded my 7D for a 5D w/18-70 kit lens (my wife needed something smaller), and I am/was very tempted by the Nikon D200 for myself.

Now I will at least wait until PMA to make a decision :)
