It's amazing how these structures still look imposing years after they close down. And while we want a cleaner planet, places like this also improved the lives of many and made what we have possible. I am glad people can see the past depicted so vividly. Thanks for sharing.

HB07 Tulips in the Maschinenhalle
 HB08 Interior of the Verwaltungsgebäude  HB09 Some view from the Zeche Zollern  Mind the exhibition of author/photographer Erich Grisar, who visited a.o. Amsterdam, Alkmaar, Marseille, Barcelona and lots of other cities about 70 years ago. BTW: I have the intention to visit one of these sites in october again, during my week's holiday then. Maybe I'll call for a DM

Indeed, that's why the Zollverein wasn't visited extensively... But, maybe in Autumn I'll drive there for just a single day... 200km to it and 200km back

So, after driving to Bochum where we booked our hotel, we started saturday in Zeche Zollern, followed by the Henrichshütte Hattingen, followed by the Altes Schiffshebewerk Henrichenburg and followed by the Deutsches Bergbaumuseum Bochum both during the (late) evening. We were happily attending the ExtraSchicht, which opens some 45 locations in the region for an evening visit with all kind of cultural stuff. This is on the last saturday in June, we discovered during the saturday.
