Any advice on this? I’ve never needed service on a DSLR body. I’d like to salvage my old camera of possible, depending on cost. Good battery installed, zero response from camera. Contacts look normal. Power switch feels normal. Is there a problem that this is most likely to be? Parts available? Can I fix it myself? How much to have a repair shop fix it?

Looking at prices the A350 go for, repairing will quickly be more expensive then replacing it - parts will be a problem as it is a 2008 (14 years almost) vintage camera.
KEH camera does repairs and Precision Camera - those two are the ones people useably mention in the US. Maybe people from the US can join in with their experience. |

When was it last working? How do you know the battery is good - have you tried it in another camera? |

If you plan a stripdown of the A350 there is a service manual at the link below.
Maybe the internal battery needs replacing https://www.manualslib.com/download/781350/Sony-Dslr-A350.html |

If it's completely unresponsive with a "good", fully charged battery, there is an interuption with main power. If not the battery, most likely the power switch. With the battery out, spray contact cleaner in switch ( not too much ), work back and forth ( on/off ) for 30 seconds and repeat 3 or 4 times, let sit and dry 30 min put fresh charge battery, turn on.

You can determine IF the problem is the main battery by using an AC power adapter. If the camera is OK, and the main battery supply system has a problem, it will turn on when you use an AC adapter.
If it fails to turn on with an AC adapter, then a repair is needed. That's not something you can do, and as stated earlier, probably not worth it -- BUT you can always use the camera as a STUDIO camera, where you are close to a AC outlet. If you love that particular camera, you can find one for a good price -- but consider other cameras as well. |

Not sure when I used it last. I have numerous A-mount cameras, so I know the battery is fine

That’s a good idea. I’ll look into the cost of an AC adapter |

I think I paid about $5 for my AC adapter. It does not have to be a Sony, but it has to have the correct DC voltage and amps output -- AND the correct connector SIZE.
If you do a lot of studio/indoor shooting, they are well worth the cost -- and nuisance of changing batteries. Of course, you are stuck to a cord. Sony made some AC adapters that are connected to a battery charger. Those are much more expensive, of course, and a real nuisance because you have to carry around the charger with the camera!!!! |

I should ask and clarify; When you put the battery in the compartment, What happens? With all of my DSLR's - With the power switch "off" - when I install the battery there is a red light and "ready shake".

Good advice. I tried it and it did not give the shake or the light. I suspect something happened to this camera without my knowledge. I’ll sell it for parts or make a display piece out of it. Edited by macronut - 18 February 2022 at 00:39 |

without that electronic handshake the prognosis isn't good, easy or cheap; and most likely not the power switch mucked up with finger oil. If you do have contact cleaner it is worth a try on the battery contacts in the battery compartment with a Q-tip.
