Sony have just released an update to Firmware version 1.01 for the A7iv, downloadable in Mac and PC versions.
It takes about 30 minutes to transfer from the computer to which it has been downloaded to the camera via USB. Look on the Sony website in your country, go to drivers and software updates. The instructions are a bit complex but you’ll get there in the end. According to Sony the update improves the accuracy of the Eye Autofocus feature, fixes an issue where you may not be able to take photos with the SEL2860 lens, and improves the operational stability of the camera. Just downloaded and am part way through updating. |

Yes.
The firmware package downloads from the Sony website in less than a minute, and can be opened on your computer in about the same time. Then the camera needs to be tethered to the computer by USB cable, and the transfer and installation of the update through its various steps does take around 30 minutes. It’s quite a complicated set of processes and in my case, using an iMac, involved allowing the program to run by opening several security gateways. I remember past firmware updates for my a- mount cameras were simply handled by transferring the downloaded program onto an SD card, inserting the card in the camera, and updating from that. But this method is not available this time. |
