Nice to hear! Enjoy your camera again.
Any idea of the repair costs? |

Thanks, Harm. Yes (I had to pay, to be reimbursed soon) - about £100 in parts, £150 labour, and £50 tax, total £300.

That's pretty cheap for parts and expensive labour. It takes me roughly 2 hours to very very slowly take apart sony cameras and convert them to IR. I imagine a trained engineer could have it done in quarter that time. Feels like labour is charged at £150 per hour ![]() I'd have more camera gear if I got paid that much ![]() ![]() |

Well, I imagine their fixed costs are higher to begin with, and about two hours to remove old parts, insert new, check and calibrate, clean, firmware update, and clean sensor doesn't seem outlandish to me. I no more like these labour costs than I do when my car needs to be repaired, but hey ho I'm not a mechanic, auto- or camera ... |

I had the shutter fail on me twice on an a6300. The first time just before going on a tour through Armenia and Georgia. I fortunately had my old A77.
This time it was repaired under warranty. The second time one or two years later a week before I went on holiday. This time the camera was out of warranty. The repair costs were at least 450€ and I didn't want to spend it on a 4 year old camera that had failed twice. So I bought the a6400. |

My household all-risks insurance covered all but £25 of my bill, but it would be harder I imagine to claim for a failed shutter mechanism on such a policy. Nevertheless I was already mulling over which camera to replace my A7 III if the costs were too high - fortunately I don't have to address that yet!
