Yesterday I mounted the 16-105 onto the A77ii body. Looks like it's a match made in heaven and they have found true love. I cannot get the lens to separate from the body. The button to decouple the lens feels slightly wobbly and doesn't have the same "feel" as usual.
Maybe something snapped inside?
Effectively I have a camera/lens combo that is seemingly inseparable. Not a bad combo to be stuck with, you might be tempted to say. I might even reluctantly agree with such an assessment.

Anybody seen this before? Is there a simple way to maybe remove that button and see if it could be fixed?

When I depress the button and try to twist the lens off, it simply won't move. I've tried to put as much strength as I dared in twisting it before backing off.

Suggestions, comments are welcome.

Thanks!

Hi Sashi,

Is there the usual 'resistance' on the button when you press it down? If there isn't, then I guess it's possible the link between the button and the peg which s holding the lens mount in place against the body may have either sheared or become detached? either way, I'm not sure where you go from there? I guess you could try having someone hold the camera whilst you hold the button as far down as possible and try and see if the lens noves any - just in case there is s till a little downward movement of that locating peg?

Best of luck and regards, Neil.

Hi Neil, thanks for pitching in. This happened while on an out of town trip. I'll get back home next week and will try to tinker around see what can be done about it.
Worst case I'll have an A77ii with the 16-105 stuck on it for life.

Regards

Can you twist the lens at all? Perhaps it is applying pressure to the lock pin and preventing it from retracting - a little twist while pushing the button might help?

Try holding the body at different angles, pointing up, down, etc., while pressing the button and twisting the lens. Some gentle tapping to set up a vibration might help too.

May the patron saint of photographers be praised!
As I said, it happened during a trip and I couldn't get it out and I didn't spend too much time on it.
I just checked today at home and it works well.

Rare are the occasions in life where problems just go away or resolve themselves and I'm rather inordinately pleased at this one in particular.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help!

Well done Sashi - never over think the solution; just be happy it's come off!

Best regards, Neil.

I've got the exact same problem with a completely different camera and lens -- probably why I got it for next to nothing -- but I'm going to try these suggestions. Starting off with trying it upside-down and all-around while tapping it without TOO much force, the trying to lube up the release button, and then letting it sit for a few days.

If all that fails, I'll drill a hole where I think I can physically access the release.

Not much to lose!
