a350 Shutter dial not working reliably

So first off I'll say I did try to search this forum but any query I can think of is either timing out or finds now results. I also assume this is more a Sony problem than just the a350 in particular, but its not one I've had to fix before.

Basically when I use the shutter dial to change shutter speed it intermittently skips around. I found some posts on DPReview forums about this exact problem and people had various degrees of luck blasting some contact cleaner into the seams around the dial. I did this several times then hit it with some air from my compressor to evaporate it before putting the battery back in to try it.

I did see a significant amount of grime come out and the dial is slightly better now. If I apply a forward pressure while turning it works almost as it should, but this is awkward especially while pressing AV button simultaneously to adjust aperture.

At least I know this is the problem. I could go through this process a few more times just worried I could damage something.

My question is, any other options to fix this? I was thinking of picking up a broken a350 and using it for parts if I can find one that doesn't cost nearly as much as a working body. My plan for this body is to convert it to infrared myself...which means I'll soon have it apart and possibly can try cleaning the wheel from the inside.

I searched with your suggestions and found some more posts. I did a few more cleanings but its about the same, I assume part of the issue is that the contacts are also worn from friction, which probably cannot be fixed. Some were saying later revisions of a700 bodies had a beefier looking wheel so seems like Sony knew there was an issue. I think I can live with this for now. I do appreciate the reply!

Nice thanks, that post is helpful! The straw trick mentioned really does help get more cleaner into the dial. It seems to be working close to normal now after a couple more rounds of cleaner.
