Addy, Elias already own a camera that will cost him $0 to keep.
A77 may be a tiny bit better or a tiny bit worse compared to A58, it depends on the shooting circumstances. So is it worth $250 to swap camera bodies when there is no obvious "winner"? |

@ $250 on a Near Mint a77 is an excellent value. Image quality to the a58 is similar. My a58 "camera error" out of existence some time ago; a77 is still a going concern.
The question I have for Elias is, How are you lighting your subject? or How do you want to light them? The iISO hot shoe of the a77 has its limitations; easily remedied in most cases but it is a different hot shoe to the a58. Depending on how you judge or score; the closest e-mount bodies to the a77 would be a6300 or a6600 and would really need native lenes; a lot more than $250. The actual upgrade puts you in the a7iv territory which makes $250 a rounding error or less than the cost of the adaptor for the lenses. Edited by LAbernethy - 10 October 2024 at 12:30 |

I made the move from A58 to A77 some years back - and I felt it to be a significant upgrade, despite being from the previous generation of bodies.
More recently I was tempted by an A77ii for £250 (incl a 2 year guarantee), which has features that improve upon the A77 - most notably the articulating screen and higher ISO performance. However, in most circumstances the A77 will produce great photos - and it doesn't have the dire multi-shoe (I much prefer the IISO shoe). I do have an A6000, which I have been using this month with A mount lenses via an LA-EA4 - it works well enough but it's not really what I bought it for. |

The A77II is better than the A58, the sensor has 4Mpix extra, more AF-points, extra dial... - the A77 1st gen. has some more noise in higher iso's. The A77 has GPS, level display, better EVF, better screen, better AF. So when you can buy the A77II for this price it's something you should do.
250£ for the A77 original is a bit too expensive - around 200 a 250€'s seems appropriate, the price level for the A77II moves around 300€ used in good shape. I had the A58, a68, a77II - the A68 has been sold after buying the A77II, i missed the horizon from the A55 too much that's why i looked for a used A77II. |
