Isn't it renamed to America Bridge
Without kidding, it is a well balanced picture

Since I haven't posted to this new thread, I missed all these great photos. Nice work all!

Pieter, I love the before and after shots of that pretty little locomotive!

Joe, that looks like "distracted driving" to me! Do I count 7 locomotives pulling that train! I bet that one was at least 1.5 miles long! Nice!

Addy, I thought we weren't supposed to make any political references here! I would be interested in why the bridge was named that. Going by the name on that streetcar/train, the location is the port of Antwerp. Maybe they unload a lot of imported corn? Sorry, bad joke!

Hello Doc;
Well maybe you could get distracted if you saw a sight like that 3027 was really moving down the tracks. The long train went right by me and I was doing 60 or 70, yes I counted 7 units myself.

The crazy thing about the picture is I was north on California Hwy 99 around Goshen Jct, the main interior north, south Hwy in the state and has countless railroad crossings all along the tracks. Yikes!

It is a geographical reference - why would you think it is political?

Thanks Kelly. The Mexibrug is across the connection in the Antwerp harbour between the Kattedijkdok and the Houtdok, so very little connection to Mexico as far as I can see. The street on both sides of the bridge is the Mexicostreet but I don't know if that got its name before of after the bridge was built

I'm sure I would be distracted, Joe! The speed of trains that long is incredible. That's where you need fast shutter speeds, 1/1000 or more. You won't find that kind of speed on the Wasatch grade here in Utah because of the steep grades. The 4000 series (big boy) steam locomotives were designed specifically for those steep grades.(Wasatch and Sherman Hill between Ogden and Cheyenne). Now you would use multiple diesel-electrics as in your photo. Level stretches, like in your photo they can really book!

Pieter,
Yes, the bridge name must be from the street name. I did a Google search and couldn't find a reason for the name, but I would guess perhaps from the 1920 Antwerp Summer Olympics, or something to do with product/produce offloaded in the Port.
My search did find a travel themed page of 20 fun facts about Antwerp.
One interesting fact said "The massive Antwerpen-Centraal (Antwerp Central) is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful railway stations. Opened in 1905 and designed by Louis Delacenserie, it has two neo-baroque facades, a large metal and glass dome that’s nearly 200 feet high, and a gilt and marble interior".
From my visits there and from your great photos of the station, I totally agree! For sure the most impressive train station I've ever seen! And I've seen a few in my travels.
Kelly

Comedy and laughter is a good thing! Better than the alternative of crying over things we have no control over! Better to get out and take photos! Right?
