Hi can anybody identify this one please? Never seen one like this before, is it an albino version of something more common?
![]() 5D Sigma 90mm f2.8 macro, 1/1250 @ f6.3 (100% crop) Edit; After much web (pun not intentional) searching it would appear it is a crab or flower spider which lies in wait in a flower waiting for insects to visit the flower, bees, butterflies and other insects. Hi Mike,
that's a crab spider named Misumena vatia. It's an interesting species because it can change its colour, depending on the flower it sits on. It mainly appears in white (like this one) or yellow. Ok, so spiders are wanted. Well, here you go: A recent shot: Wolf Spider (Alopecosa cuneata) ![]() Some older shots: Wasp Spider (Argiope bruennichi) ![]() ![]() Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus) ![]() Orb-web spider (Metellina sp.) ![]() |

Now for some bugs, I would have thought that given the amount of spraying I've done there would be none left but as you see ......
All with 5D Sigma 90/2.8 macro, hand held A/S on. 1/400 f9 ![]() 1/400 f11 ![]() 1/320 f8 ![]() And this fly just sat there watching 1/2000 f6.3 ![]() If nothing else these show that maybe I should stop down further to improve the DOF. |

From the trip to New Zealand, first one taken with the Minolta 70-200/2.8 SSM, second one with the Minolta 100/2.8 D Macro:
A cave spider with the cave's moisture accumulating as dew on its back. ![]() A cave weta, unfortunately its hard to aim the picture properly in the dark, so I cut off some of its extremities. ![]() |

If you like taking pictures of bugs, plant a lemon tree. It is a bug motel.
![]() This one about as big as my hand overall. ![]() This one's a tiny little fella. ![]() And then there was this hairy guy behind the shed. ![]() And then this one just because I like the shot. :) I had to lie on my back in the mud but I quite like the result. ![]() |

Thanks Rosie. The St Andrews spider shot was taken some years ago with the Minolta D7i and before I discovered noise reduction. The spider is gone, the shed is gone but I still have the camera. The D7i always had power issues but I'm having a decent external battery pack built at which point I'll be using it again regularly. Really looking forward to that as it is a fantastic camera.
