The meeting went off a treat, and I've posted a new thread here DM Melbourne 11-01-2020.

Grey beard, wearing black & orange and carrying the little Sony - I packed the A99ii kit last night then unpacked it this morning when my elbow said

Thanks Joe for coordinating this. I'll be coming in by train so Flinders st works well for me. (making a mental note to check whether the trains will be running ... I may be coming in by tram but the meeting point still works)

I'll be the guy with a grey beard carrying a Sony camera - that should narrow it down a bit

James,
Sounds good.
See you at 10:00.
Because Federation Square is big, and pin pointing a meeting spot a bit tricky now part of it is a construction site for the Metro Rail project, could we meet under the clocks at Flinders Street Station?
My mobile number is 0419 887 971, so you can call me as needed.

Hopefully Adam will be coming along.
Any other local Dyxummers most welcome of course.

Joe, the loop you describe starting and ending at Federation square sounds good to me! It's also convenient for catching the train into and out of the city. How does a 10am start sound? James

All set for Saturday?
Any other takers?

Adam, as a visitor to Melbourne are there any sites or agendas you'd like to explore? And do you have a preferred start time?
Saturday's forecast looks to be 14 to 19 degrees C, partly cloudy, 10% chance of rain, but I think mainly in the morning and clearing.

If all else fails we could do the well worn route starting at Federation Square, and crossing the pedestrian footbridge, seeing Soutbank Arts Precinct, then back across Princes Bridge, along Birrarung Marr, then into the city grid, and back down through the graffitied laneways to our start point. Never fails to be of photographic interest, but there are of course other things in Melbourne and immediate surrounds.

Let's see the response(s) and we can lock something in.

I'm up for the 11th! Anywhere in Bayside is good, as is anywhere closer to the city, or further from the city. We might be guided by the BOM's forecast when the 11th is in range.

Joe, the elbow is from landing badly after slipping on a zero friction surface - just the right mix of wet slime of a polished paver. I can carry the A99ii, but it takes effort to lift it to my eye. It takes a little less effort to lift the A6600 with its lighter lenses. And returning to work is great - I'm back in my old job and am thinking of my brief retirement as just three and a half years long service leave. I'm having to adjust to two-day weekends and not buying fresh ingredients daily, but the mental health benefits of the daily intellectual challenges of my work make up for that.
A99ii + 16-35 | 24-70 | 24-105 | 70-200 | 100-300 | 70-300 | 70-400
20/2.8 | 28/2.8 | 50/1.4 | 300/4 | 500/8
A6600 + 10-18 | 16-70 | 18-135 | 70-200/4 | 70-350
28/2 | 56/1.4 | 85/1.4

OK, lets make it Saturday 11th.
We can see if anyone else wants to join up before setting a time and rendezvous.
Lots of photogenic stuff around Brighton foreshore if you'd like to explore there, James, and of course St.Klida not far away.
If it's just a small group we could get around by car, but if it's to be the CBD, best to use public transport, and to meet at Federation Square.
Lets see how things are looking early new year and we can get a fix on numbers, and consensus on start time and place.

Saturday the 11th works for me too. We're staying in Brighton but the CBD looks to be just a train ride away - I'm also open to other suggestions from the knowledgeable locals!

Good to hear from you Adam, sorry about the dodgy elbow (and also the return to full time work - a bit of a shock to the system??).
Now I'm unavailable on Sunday 5th, as we've been invited to some friends for a long lunch at Mt.Eliza.
I'd be free 6th to 11th inclusive.

I'm in Newcastle this week but I'll be back in Melbourne on NYE. However, since I'm now a full time working person again, the only dates that I can come would be on weekends, i.e., Sunday 5th or Saturday 11th.

If either of those dates work, I can pick up folk of needed.

Sadly I won't be using my A99ii as I've injured my right elbow and even my A6600 feels heavy over a day's shooting.
A99ii + 16-35 | 24-70 | 24-105 | 70-200 | 100-300 | 70-300 | 70-400
20/2.8 | 28/2.8 | 50/1.4 | 300/4 | 500/8
A6600 + 10-18 | 16-70 | 18-135 | 70-200/4 | 70-350
28/2 | 56/1.4 | 85/1.4

James,
More than happy to meet up. I'm around over summer. Let's see if there are others, and we can then lock in a date, time, and starting point for our photo walk and meet-up.
Do you have any particular site(s) in mind?
Around the CBD or further afield?
Looking forward to it.
Joe
