Topic: Where next in the North Eastern US? Posted: 11 April 2007 at 21:34 |
Even if you are by nature a solitary photographer, you are likely to get a real buzz out of meeting up with other Dyxum members to take photographs. It is fascinating to see how others tackle photographic subjects and great to actually meet the people you have been conversing with on-line.
This topic is for discussion of possible meetings anywhere in the North Eastern US. Dyxum members are invited to suggest meetings and make preliminary plans in this thread. Once you have settled on a venue and date/dates, PM me or any other admin/moderator about having a specific planned event thread set up (this makes your event more visible to other members!). Keep an eye on regions that are near where you live and, if you are visiting somewhere that has a group, why not drop them a line in their regional thread? An index of all the regional threads, planned meetings and resulting photographs can be found here - Bob Janes Time to meet in New England! (US) I am located in Northern RI but you know, around here we're all pretty close together. OK you people, I've PM'ed with dCap and he'll start a meeting thread for us if a few of you respond. It looks like they had fun in the UK so how about it? Edited by Bob Janes - 23 July 2007 at 13:00 |

There must be other members in the NYC area - would anyone be interested in a Manhattan meet-up?

I'm considering heading down for Photoplus Expo on the Friday that it opens ... but busy family & work life keeps me from pursuing a get-together too earnestly. I'll follow this thread just in case I have time when everyone else gets together, though. (I'm in NW CT right along the NY border).

I am located in NYC (borough of Queens) and not too far from lower CT. Please keep me in the loop.
Thanks, Keith |

I am in the same boat as CTYankee, would like to go to a get-together in the Tri-State area, (sorry Bob RI is a bit too far, although never been up there would be interesting...) but never know if/when could make it especially if the Boss has any plans of her own. I am in Bergen County, NJ.

CTYankee brings up a good point - Photoplus is October 18-20 in NYC. Would people be interested in meeting then?

Here's the link for Photoplus Expo 2007. I attended it the year the 7D came out; the camera had only been on the market a month or so. Got to meet Phil Bradon at the KM booth ! Amazing to see the crowds at the Nikon & Canon booths checking out tons of camera models & lenses; watching seminars by paid pros; seeing live demos of how to use camera X for studio photography, etc. ... then walk over to a lightly attended KM booth and hear comments like "oh, I didn't know Minolta had a DSLR" ... "6MP ? Not enough". :) I'd be curious to see what a Sony booth looks like, particularly if they've announced a new higher end body by then (it's late October, so hopefully).
I registered a couple weeks ago; it's free, so no commitment. Actually, I'd mentioned Friday, but I'd be going on Thursday Oct 18th if I go. The B&H superstore is within walking distance (more or less along the way between Grand Central and the convention center). The conference is also useful for checking out mundane things like tripods, bags, etc. Edited by CTYankee - 25 July 2007 at 15:26 |

Well, I just got my PhotoExpo Seminar Program in the mail today - some cool looking courses, but at $80 each I don't think I'll be taking many. Anyone else still going?
