I went in search of a recent Themed Views thread about dogs, and could not find one that post-dates a Jumping Dogs thread in August.

Come on dog fanciers, show us your pooches.

All breeds accepted.

A friend's aged pooch callled Comet. Unfortunately one sick "puppy" with a cancerous growth in his cheek.

This show with a 180 macro actually, but it will do to start the thread rolling.

Great thread..there was a 'shooting dogs' (not literally of course ) thread a while back but I will gladly post some of my favourite doggie pics. Some have been posted before.

All of my Chocolate Lab, Harvey and my Staffordshire Terrier, Poppy. Taken with a100 & a700 in the last 12 months.

Matt, I never tire of seeing these beautiful pictures of Harvey. You can see the 'questioning' in the puppy's eyes in #1 "whats Dad pointing at me" ? a lot more confident in #3 and a mature dog in #4 who has seen it all before. Not to forget Poppy of course, I have seen a few owners with 'staffies' who should be banned from keeping them (or probably any dog) but with the correct handling they seem to be wonderful companions.

This is Oska,
Oska is my daughters second dog, a 10 month old X who was abandoned on to the streets. My daughter took him from the rescue centre at 6 months.
Oska had a few problems at that time but with patience, good training and lots of love he has developed into a super, gentle and funny companion.

We were told that Oska was probably a terrier and Border collie X but he has grown/is growing into a rather large dog ?

Roy, Thank you for your kind words. I have hundreds of photos of the dogs but the top two are probably my favourite, purely for the innocence and questioning in his eyes. I have recently re-visited all my shots of him as we had a bit of heart ache recently when he had to be put under and have his stomach cut and emptied. Silly sod had eaten his blanket bed and it didn't pass through - we had no choice but to operate or loose him. Thankfully he's fine now and has made an amazing recovery. He's a little put out now that he has no comfy bedding - but we can't risk it again. ('Marley and Me' comes to mind !!)

I understand what you mean about Staffies, they have rather a bad 'rep' here - which I can understand. They do seem to attract the wrong type of owner, which is a shame. Poppy was my girlfriends dog when we met and I was weary at first but I would not be without her now. She is very loving and has a lovely nature and has been a great 'mother' to Harvey.

Lovely picture of Oska and a very touching background story. I love the fact Oska has come through and it just proves that with a loving home, anything is possible. Good for him! Do you have any more pics of Harris and Jess?

Here are few more. The first one was taken the night we got Harvey, he was 8 weeks old. His 'seal' impression makes me laugh every time.(This was a a100 shot, high ISO, severely underexposed which I re-processed with IDC 2 and got an 'ok' image from)

And now look at him, grumpy old man!!

Here's the two of them - Poppy reluctantly sharing her bed (which Harvey destroyed over the next few weeks!!)

Matt, that first picture is priceless, "grumpy old man" you say ? how old is Harvey ?
Your story touched a nerve ! two years ago Harris our lab having 'pigged out' on fallen apples on one of our walks got one stuck in his lower intestine (we did not know what was wrong at the time) until the vet opened him up and removed the half digested apple.
I derive great satisfaction from donating all my disposal income to the local Vet !
Labs eh ? and their appetites, 'dustbin dogs' indeed. I say Harris should have been named "Bin liner" cos he's black and full of rubbish.

Here are a few quickly worked up shots of Harris & Jess taken on Dunbar beach recently.

Look I can fly !

I would hate anyone to think I encouraged my dogs to chase swans but it is in this working spaniel's genes to flush birds and this time she was too quick for me.

Notice she always travels approx 6 inches above the ground !

All swimmed out !

Harvey is now the tender age of 13 months! He was about 9/10 months when that shot was taken. He is anything but grumpy, he just looked that way in the photo. Harvey loves life, he would be up 24hrs a day if we let him. He also loves food, as all labs do and if he can't get it he'll eat anything around him. He also loves water - he jumps in every puddle and is straight in any river or lake (even if you don't want him to!)

Your shots are superb. You can tell Harris and Jess are having a ball. I love the expression on Harris's face in the third. The last one of Jess is something else - Perfect DOF, great sharpness and the colours and lighting give it so much depth.

Thanks for sharing these. a700 & SSM I presume?

Thanks Matt, yes A700 & SSM.
13 months is a tender age, I don't think labs fully mature until about 2 years of age. Harris is 7 and still ready for some fun as you can see.
It's not rocket science with labs is it ? you just have to watch their weight. We do not have this problem with Jess (12.5Kg) who is on the same quantity of food as Harris (30Kg) I think she runs on Kryptonite !

Here are two of my pooch.

He's just 2years old now. Got another year to fill out his head and chest, but other than that, full grown and all pup, but don't pick on my kids or wife or he'll set you straight.
