January Madness

Yes, here we go again!

Why? This is a great way to learn about a lens, and starting to think in different ways, solving problems in different ways, and taking shots that you usually would not take because of lazy zooming habits!

With "OktoberFest" being such a success, we now want to get even more Dyxumers joining.

How do we do that? Simple -- many members feel little unsecure using only one lens, that’s why there will be a new group for you! It’s called "Prime pair" and you choose two primes to use.

We are also adding an "event pass" group for those of you who know you have ONE event for which you "need" to use other lenses.

So, in outline, there will be:

Three levels:

-HC, Hard Core one prime bolted to the camera for 31 days, no event pass.
-PP, Prime pair, chose two primes to use, no event pass.
-EP, Event pass, one prime with an event pass.

Pictures:

To make this easier to follow this time there will be no personal threads:
-maximum of one posted shot per day, no extras and no nearbies.
-there will be threads for each day, a total of 31 threads. Photos will be posted to the corresponding thread for each day of the challenge.

Please add:
-your lens(es) and sub-challenge, put a link in your signature line to your gallery in pBase, Smugmug Flickr etc.
-a title, a few words about the shot, and Exif details -- aside from that the picture threads are "No words" threads.
-all talk and comments will be in separate threads, which restart after every 10 pages.

Sub-challenges:

-B&W
-No crop
-No PP
-Spot meter only
-Color only
-Pic-a-day
-M-mode only
-Hyperfocal
-31 shots only
…and anything that sounds sensible.

Pick a theme

-Alphabet
-Numbers
-One dominant color

Challenge your friend

Find someone to challenge and set some rules with them – it could be someone you know will use a similar lens. We will start a “One Prime -- Friends Wanted” thread for this.

I only have the 2 primes and have done both of them and both posting pic-a-day... I might sit back in the sun and watch everyone trying to get enough sunlight to take a pic... or is that too mean????

Suggesting that you take a mirror with you to check for signs of grey hair is mean.

well, my 20/2.8 arrived today and it's beautiful, so count me in! Theoretically, this will be the first month of my long-term pic-a-day project.

A100, MinO 20/2.8, no crop, probably no PP, pic-a-day, hardcore.

PS: no crop should be mandatory; this is a PRIME challenge! And Rosie: time to get on eBay and buy yourself a $30 M42 lens; it might even get delivered before January :)
C&C always welcome

I'm in!

D5D + Tomioka 55/1.4 (M42)

Level HC, pic-a-day, and of course manual focus.

However, as we have a "worldwide event" on the beginning of January, I'm not sure if I'll be able to post one pic per day (there might be some delay)

So in the second category (prime par?) (prime pair??) are you still making some sort of promise not to use your other lenses for the month; or are you simply obligated to submit one pic a day taken with either of those two lenses?

I don't understand the third category either. What are the expectations and what are the limitations?

"Prime par" should of course be "prime pair"
You agree to use ONLY two specific prime lenses for 31 days and NO event pass.

Event Pass:
You use your specific prime, one prime, and have an event pass to use what ever lenses you wish.
Say you know there is a wedding comming up or a trip to some excotic place.
You know that one or two primes just won't do it for this once in a life time event , then "EP" is your choice.
