The manual identifies them both as as levers. Not what I would have called them, but they didn't ask me. They consider the diopter adjustment control to be a dial, also.

Forget all that stuff. What I really want to know is does it have "Sanjuro" mode. I don't care if it is a button, knob, wheel or menu selection.

Actually, the A700 doesn't have any wheels or knobs. It has two control dials and one mode dial.

I presume you mean the front and rear control dials, and the Exposure Mode dial.

What about the Focus Mode and Metering Mode switches?

ChrisH: Something tells me you haven't touched your D5D in a while...

The A700 only ever 'gets' me when I set a custom WB and I forget to reset it when I pop up my flash. I wish there was a "Use Flash WB when flash is used" ala Pentax K10D.

You can also tap the WB button WHILE looking through the viewfinder, and change settings with the front and rear dial WITHOUT taking your eye off. The only brand that lets you set everything through the viewfinder is Olympus.

With the A100, I used Auto ISO (100-400) but in dark areas, ISO1600. I think it's very very obvious after you see your first ISO1600 shot that you need to set it back. Remember this is digital, you may chimp! :D

Isn't this just a little more than a point and shoot camera ?

Nice kitlens, liveview, Automatic and P-mode. Daddy can always make 'excelent photo's' because he has a good camera. Look, it is a DSLR and it only costs $ 500,-.

Duh, yeah right. Does Daddy know anything about aperture and it's consequences? Does Daddy know anything about changing field of view when he zooms out and walks towards the subject ?

Daddy is a bit to . OOOps .

Goodnight Daddy .

7D doesn't have iso knob as I know... It has dedicated button as A700 does... so... what do U mean that it is worse in Sony? I love my 7D but quick navi makes it all even easier in a700

How would having the wheels help with the ISO problem when comparing 7D vs a700??

And now something completely ... practical . Minolta madethe D7D with a lot of knobs, wheels etc that showed you the status of many things like your ISO, + or - exposure, etc. With the D5D things were already less clear and now Sony has the Alpha line things are even worse.

Example : a while ago I shot in low light conditions so I give my ISO a boost to 1600 or so. The next time I went out to make photo's I completely forgot to set the ISO back to 100, which is my standard.

And this weekend I shot in low light conditions again and I suppose you guess what happened .. forgot to adjust the ISO again .

When Sony released the A700 much more was put into menu's etc. The A700 only has 1 wheel.

I know I'm the one to blame when things go wrong but IMHO things are a lot easier with wheels and knobs instead of menu's and control screens.

My point ? Sony, please give us back our wheels and do not try to re-invent it again .

Blah, drop the a50 aor anything below a200, and give us an a700 with FF or atleast something close to it (1,1x 1,2x) and SSS. Box it and brand it a800, and Im buying!

I don't think Sony got into the DSLR market to make small change on $500 kits.

But I don't think Sony have a choice if they produce cameras like the A200. It will be compared against other similar cameras in the market, and they will determine the price, not SOny
