Originally my idea was slightly different (please see below, in the quotation box) - to have a thread for me only. But pauljg jumped in with his shots (nothing wrong about that - it is now more open and we will have more fun with it) and so the thread evolved from "MiPr's random shots" into "Post your random shots".

So, there are only a three simple rules that must be fulfilled to post a photo in here:
* The photo you post must be selected from your gallery in a random way (or pseudo-random - if there are some computing purists around ). Use your calculator, or computer to generate some pseudo-random number. Or use dice, or results of your national lottery, or whatever ...

* The first shot selected must be posted, i.e. no cheating is allowed because e.g. "that first photos was so awful",

* No more than one photo per day is allowed.

Of course all are encouraged to comment others work and discuss various aspects of posted photos.

So ... let's see how this will work ...

Recently I decided to move from JAlbum (which I got a bit tired of) to to something more automated: Gallery2. The latter has a nice feature called "random image" - shows just a random shot each time the page is refreshed. Thanks to this I suddenly started discovering my own shots which always have been on my gallery but which I almost have forgotten.

It is a kind refreshing to see your own work from the past. Funny that I can still remember where each shot was taken (a bit harder is to recall "when" ).

Anyway, this is how this thread came to my mind - I'll try to post one photo a day until I'll run out of photos (no worries, there are enough for a few years of such posting ) or you'll curse me. Whichever will come frst

OK, time for the first shot - 'Kostel Svateho Vita' (or 'Saint Vitus Cathedral' if you prefer):

Nice picture and nice idea

Is it your idea that you are going to be the only one who posts pictures in this topic?

In 42 Bob J. challenged others to post pictures too, but that's clearly different.

Anyway I won't post a picture here before you've spoken your mind

Pauljg, my initial idea was to start thread with my photos only, however your question triggered a discussion among mods/admins how to organize this if other Dyxumers would like to join. There are a few problems to consider, e.g. possible "pollution" of the RHS "menu" of recent shots (because of this I probably change formulae to "7 random shots once per week" instead of "one shot daily"). I'll let you know the outcome of the discussion.

Might I suggest doing something similar to what I do with my pic-a-day (see my signature)? I have an externally hosted sequence of images and then once a week, I post the best of that week to my thread.

Anyway, bring it on! Or to use the vernacular, MOAR!
C&C always welcome

OK, a week passed and so it's time to show my first random selection of 7 shots - one for each day :)

#1 Chojnik Castle (right on top of the hill - tedious walk uphill to get there)

#2 Poppy - a shot taken in our arboretum in Wrocław

#3 I really don't know how it got this cap, but it had a lot of fun with it (and so had people watching this "performance" )

#4 Funny that I've post-processed this shot a few days ago and posted it in Open Views just yesterday ...

#5 "Mammoth Columns" - columns which support nothing, and are there just to look good now they are all covered with vine

#6 And I think that you all know this beauty very well

#7 And finally a quick glimpse on Technical Museum in Prague. I usually do not do selective colouring but in this case it was unavoidable - simply the exhibition area was so packed with exhibits that there was no other way to bring some separation on the photo.

I hope that you'll enjoy these shots. You are welcome to post comments/opinions/suggestions about them.

Fine series Mipr my favourite is #7 but the others are nice too!

I'm going to put my first "random shot" here, which I have selected by calculating (with my HP-calculator) two randum numbers and using the first for the page of my album on Photobucket and the second for the number of the picture on that page, so the first was 4, the second 10 and that gave this picture:

which shows new leaves of a pieris japonica, growing on my balcony.

And my random shot (provided generously by gallery2 engine) is Pot Marigold (Calendula officinalis in Latin or nagietek in Polish):

And today my pseudo-random engine decided to show ... THE missus deep in thoughts

deliberately taken as OOF portrait - I do not have back-focus issues

Well, it does say random shots, so here goes.

One of the first BIFs I ever did, from my old apartment's balcony,
with the Minolta (Silver) 75-300/4.5-5.6 (D) on my Dynax 7D,
I still haven't learned how to get them from closer.

and here one I did from the entrance to Newgrange in Ireland,
using the Sigma 18-200/3.5-6.3 on my Dynax 7D, perspective corrected using the Bibble Pro lens correction plugin

(There was a wheelchair right next to the stairs on the left which the lens correction handily cropped out for me)
