Dear Dyxumers,

When I saw this shot for the first time I knew it would be a winner. The atmosphere rendered by it cannot be mistaken with anything else although, contrary to author's intention, my first thought was "Philip Marlowe" not "Sam Spade". But anyway, I almost saw Humphrey Bogart sitting at the desk ...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm pleased to announce that THE winner of the DPC #67 "About a phone":

"Slow Day for Sam Spade" by wross

Congratulations to the winner who is awarded the Golden Dyxum Patch.

As usual we also have the honourable mention "award", which this time goes to

"Dropped Call" by RubberDials

which was a very strong contender, and

Congratulations and thank you all for voting and participation in this DPC.

Happy shooting,

MiPr

Well done wross - great shot and a well-deserved win! Congrats to RubberDials and Nebbor too, both fine shots in a tough contest.

Congratulations Walt - it's a great image. I'd be interested to hear the story behind it.

Thanks very much. I appreciate all that. And congratulations to RubberDials, Nebbor, and the other finalists. All great entries.

@dilettante: The story behind the image... MiPr's links above are dead on target. I was going for the look of Sam Spade (or Philip Marlowe if you prefer), the 1930's/40's detectives made famous on the screen by Humphrey Bogart.

Thanks too for all the great comments during the voting. It didn't seem right to respond to them while the poll was still open. I owe a few of you specific responses:

@Jlav: Yes, that's ok.

@ricardovaste: Wow, thanks Rich.

@RosieA100: Yeah, my wife said the same thing.

@bms44974: Sorry, Jersey Lady ran out of the money. Willie Shoemaker came in 1st, riding Open Flow. Ron Turcotte came in second, on Morning Cast. Honest! By the way, the date on that paper is November 23, 1963.

Thanks again all.
