That's right, it's time again!

Previously: January, April, July, October, galleries

The theme is "one month one prime", which can mean pretty much whatever you want it to mean depending on the level of challenge you're looking for and the events that you need to go to. I'm not a believer in preventing anyone from taking any photo, i.e. I don't want to restrict your photography, I want you to extend it.

The only guiding principle is that you will make significant use of one particular prime lens for a month, hopefully attempting to use it to take photos that you wouldn't have otherwise taken with that lens. If you need to use something else then by all means do, but keep thinking "how could I do this with my nominated lens?"... and then do it with your nominated lens as well.

All addons to your nominated lens are fair game except for teleconverters. Polarisers, coloured filters, closeup filters, blur filters, old stockings or vaseline on a UV, cardboard vignettes to shape the bokeh, extension tubes - all good. You can use whatever camera body you like, even multiple bodies in multiple formats (e.g. APS-C DSLR and film SLR).

Post at most one image per day (when you take it is up to you, but if you're on pic-a-day, it should be posted in the appropriate day's thread), though you can take as many as you like. When you post an image, please tell us the lens name, aperture, shutter speed and any modifications (e.g. filters) used to take the photo.

I'll post a list of the participants here (reply to this thread to get on it) with the rules that each has chosen for themselves. Typical add-on rules that people select are "picture a day" or "7 pics/week", "all B&W", "no crop", etc - further restrictions aimed at getting the creating juices flowing. I would recommend "no crop" in at least one image dimension otherwise you're not really constrained by the field of view, which is the aim of the challenge.

Ah, I like your rules better... Well, I might be able to do it this time. I'll be back to confirm and let you know what lens I'll use.

That should be honoured member

Quite happy to set stuff up for you, although I've an idea for another challenge that will run across the latter part of January, so might not be taking part myself

Hey... I logged in to Dyxum this morning to start a OnePrime thread for January :)
I'm in, with A700 and 28/2. Can't think of more details or any bolt-on right now, but there's still enought time for that.

Gabriel, good to see you're not bailing out on us. I'm sure we'll all enjoy your pics once again, regardless of the camera you'll use ;)

Why not!

To confirm: a200 + 200/2.8, pic a day, and a least one event pass (will travel a bit in January).

I wish I had a 35mm or so though.

I'm in - and off to New Zealand via LA in January, back via Hong Kong. Will have my Sony Alpha 700 & Sony 50mm f/1.4 with me, so I have no excuse for not getting some good images!

I've loaned out some lenses so I'm on 28/f2.8 at the moment for most things. I'll see what I can do though. Most of the time I can't take a camera to work with me.

So, yeah. Details: KM 5D, 28/f2.8 or 50/f1.7 ;) Try and cut down on cropping and my photoshop skills are minimal anyway. I know you've tried but I just haven't grasped it

No reason to bail out from a photographic forum, which is part of my photographic learning curve.
I'm not really at ease with wide lenses, so one month with it is a perfect learning opportunity.

OK, I'm in. I think.

A couple of questions...
1. Does it matter what camera you use (as long as they're of the same format)? I mean, I'm thinking of primarily shooting with my A700 but I'd still like to use my 7D. Or I might end up using the 7D more often.

2. Are we supposed to use one lens or one focal length? I have two 135mm lenses and I'm contemplating using them for this challenge...

If the rules are really loose, I'd imagine that using prime lenses of the same focal length (however many you use) would not make much of a difference. Likewise, why would a camera body matter?

I'm thinking I'd use the A700 and the 135STF. But I'd also like to use the 135/2.8 and the 7D. I'd really like to try wide-angle but I have no wide-angle prime.

What do folks think?

Count me in again!

Lens: Helios 85mm f/1.5 M42

Camera: Between my Pentax K200D and Minolta 5D, and maybe Minolta 7 Film

Bolt-on: At least 20 pictures (possibly multiples in one day). The lens is in repair at the moment, and may not be out until after January starts. It's a good goal :P
