Hi there!

Just stumbled upon these news:

Right now CompactFlash-Cards are available up to 32 GByte and reach a maximum of 50 Megabyte per second.

Those who need bigger and faster CF-Cards will soon be able to "create" one, made of four microSDHC-cards and a microSDHC-adapter for usual ale CF-II-Slots.

The company PhotoFast announced this model with the name CR-7200 for this month in Germany.

The CR-7200 combines microSDHC-cards - max capacity of one cards is 16 GByte – in a RAID-0-Volume, in this way 64 GByte can be reached.

When using fast microSDHC-cards up to 80 MByte/s reading and 40 MByte/s writing speeds can be achieved.

Negative is that all data is lost when a single cards fails.

First availability will be at Foto Video Sauter in Munich.

Maybe we can send Micholand to check it. I think he is located in Munich!

always on the need for improvement

I can see there 4 slots - why not combining RAID 0 for speed and RAID 1 for safety?...

I was thinking the same. Personally, I'm not really interested in RAID 0 (striping), given that large and fast enough SLC CF cards already exist and much larger and faster SLC CF cards are to arrive in the future. What I'm missing is redundancy, therefore I would like to see a similar adapter supporting RAID 1 (mirroring). Even if a true RAID rebuild could not be accomplished in the camera, it would - after a card fault - still be possible to read out the remaining card in a single card adapter, replace the faulty card and logically reformat the whole multi card setup in the PC or the camera.

Greetings,

Matthias
