Ditto. So it is time someone started a new thread, Pure Portraits V. (And that's a good one too from DaveK.) Edited by brettania - 01 September 2009 at 16:49 |

Exellent portrait Ferdo -- very engaging.
I am not an expert, but here are 2 small things: The frame of the glasses go through her right iris -- perhaps tilting her head slightly less would have helped. Secondly, I personally like it if both eyes are in focus so I would probaby use a sligthly higher f-number to get more DOF (just my opinion of course, many people like super shallow DOF) Edited by Vivec - 01 September 2009 at 14:22 |

@ Vivec: Like the others said: A geat picture. A bit mysterious too, but the lighting is great. Love her eyes. Thanks for the crop :-)
PS Enjoy your stay in Holland! |

@ Ferdo.
I second Dave's comment. Looks like it is ready to be used by a spectacle manufacturer in a brochure. Edited by brettania - 01 September 2009 at 14:14 |

Thanks for the nice feedback
![]() @ricardovaste: I mixed ambient with 1 studio light with a beauty dish. It was actually a sunny day but I measured ambient and manually underexposed by 2 stops to get a darker look in the background. I then tweaked the strobe power manually to expose Brianne correctly. (measured with a nice Minolta IVf light meter I got of ebay) @Brian: thanks -- she has indeed a nice mysterious look here. @Pegelli: thanks for the feedback; however I kind of like how she blends with the darker side on the left but I see your point and I will try to think of it next time. You are also right about the catchlight, in a 100% crop you can nicely see that I used a beauty dish which gave the circular highlight (see below). I don't have photoshop though and only do global adjustments in lightroom (in order to reduce my time behind a computer ![]() ![]() (A900+CZ85) Edited by Vivec - 01 September 2009 at 14:25 |

Powerful and beautiful shot! I love it, Ferdo!
![]() Update: I like the colors also. I think it is a very professional shot you must be proud of. And I took a look at your site. Some great portraits there! I like the Shallower DOF, so I guiss that's a matter of taste. Keep them coming! Edited by DaveK - 01 September 2009 at 17:09 |

@vivec, agree with Richard and Brian it's a very nice portrait but maybe you could have put a small light to the left/behind which would separate the hairline from the dark background, and secondly I would PP the ringlights in her eyes to full circles. Those are the only small nits I can find in this further excellent picture
@tot31, the formal portrait came out very nice again, I like the "innocent" look over her shoulder. The second more informal one is nice as well, allthough I'm not sure about the headrest she's leaning against. It somehow distracts me from the model. On the other hand it makes her diagonal face position very natural and unforced. |

^^ I also love this shot. Richard, he says "mix with ambient" - probably means ambient + artificial lighting?
The picture anyway looks like it could be for a movie... I can almost see a movie title to the right, I don't know what about, but I guess her expression is just telling me some story I don't know if I have a key to. Just a wonderful mood. |

Vivec, that is excellent. You're lighting and treatment is just beautiful. Can I ask about your lighting? You say it's just ambient, but I seem to see rings of light in her eyes? Anyway, I'm just interested in how your achieved the wonderful direction and balance in the lighting - please share if you get the time ![]() |
