Is it a FFB-repair or a general overhaul? The partchange in my A500 has resulted in no more FFB, even with the 6000 klick's I have taken sinds the camera came back.
About the shutter mall-function, this occurs in my trusty A100, mostly in colder en moist wether. Again, with over 20.000 klicks, it's got his tol of durt also.

Good luck with the repairs.

I finally took the time to send my camera in to get it repaired under warranty as I noticed it was reaching it's 1st birthday in a few days.

After nearly one year and over 10k shots on it my trusty a500 is looking a tired in addition to the FBF problem. The rubber grip where the tips of my index and pinky finger rest has worn it self to the plastic body. Also noted in my repair request is the occasional jamming of the lens release button. I've been shooting with mainly primes and the constant lens changing shows it toll on the mount.

We'll see if all this gets attend to and hopefully it will come back to me shortly.

Used 4400 shots to test it, or just changed the count number? I am not sure about the A500, but if it is anything like older cameras they probably just used a card with a higher frame count on it and it restarted counting from that point.

I have this first frame black problem with my a500 and I'm a bit curious if that change of part 148752611 bring help to the problem? I don't like the idea to send camera to service for changing parts that don't fix the problem.

Interesting detail was that I called Sony's customer service on June and they said that they have never before hear of this problem and I'm the first complaining of FFB! If understood correctly, that was customer support in UK (I called Sony customer support Finland, but call was redicted to because basically they don't have service or support for alphas in Finland).

I haven't seen this problem with my A500, but I'm only at 500 frames. Any word on if Sony has acknowledged this issue?

My a500 is still having this issue I guess I should send it in for repair. Thanks for sharing your experience so far, hopefully the problem will not return.

Btw- I looked up your part number and it was the "shutter" they replaced.

It's retuned! After 2 and a half week in repair, my A500 returned.
On the repairsheet it's stated that the camerasection with partnumber 148752611 has been replaced.

Now I hope the First frame black ain't returning.

I got it back and only the date had to be set again. The counter of the foto's was 7700, but before it went into repair, the counter was 3300. So they shot 4400 pics just to test it. And they use Memorysticks to test. The switch was set to it, I use SD-cards.

So back on taking pictures.

I think the black JPGs are smaller simply because a completely black frame is exceedingly easy to compress. :)

As of last saturday I have brought my A500 camera back to the shop. After 2 month of use, it is showing FFB problems . By reading this forum I know of the FFB in the A500 and older KM-camera's
After turning it ON the first shot is black. Because I shoot JPG in the best setting, the filesize is app. 5 MB, but the black JPG-s are 1,5MB. So something is happening.
I will inform you when it's comming back. In this 2 months I shot 3000 pics. I am glad I have my old A100 at hand.

I had a strange problem with mine when I first received it - turning it on, LV worked fine, but in OVF mode, I couldn't get the rear screen to turn on although the shutter would fire. Turning the camera on and off seemed to solve the problem.

The first black frame problem with KM cameras was a mechanical problem caused by wear. Given that some reports here are from quite new cameras, it doesn't seem wear could be the cause.

Maybe the firmware's a big buggy? Although the cameras have been out there for a while now, and there's been no firmware update...

Just reporting in about this as it seems I'm getting more occurrences of first black frame on the a500. I've been on holiday the past week and have been leaving the camera switched "on" position so it's always ready to take a shots. I've been only using two prime lenses on this trip 16mm fish and 135mm both old minolta lenses. I had 12 occurrences out of roughly 150 shots (10 with 16mm and 2 with 135mm) My camera settings has been a mix of mostly A priority and occasional M mode. I can't tell from the exif if they were taken with LV or OVF but judging by composition the frames following the FBF they were mainly LV.

I can confirm this happening on my a500, I have 2000+ actuations. It occurs intermittently. I can't seem produce method that causes it to happen but it definitely occurs sometimes when the camera wakes up from sleep mode. The first frame will be black but the next one will be fine.

I hope this is an isolated issue but I hope it continues to be documented here on Dyxum just in case it turns into some worse.

I have the thought of sending it back to sony but I find it difficult to proof to them as when it will happen again.

Same here (A500), I thought it was a user problem.
