I have two Maxxum 9, and finally I managed to find a second DM-9 in a reasonable price.
The problem is that the file names starts with dno-0001 again. I used the file name to tag and sort the films and the files and having repeats will cause confusion.

Is there away (beside doing it manually every time I copy a file) to change the name? Let's say, for the second body to start with dno-1001.

You should be able to change the prefix. By design, this is exactly the reason for having that feature. It should be in the custom functions, that is where is is in the 7. Change it to dnX so the the numbers don't conflict. Don't think you can or would want to change the numerical digits. I have dn0 for my 9, dn1 for my Dynax 7, and dn2 for my Maxxum 7. Refer to the manual for the procedure. If you don't have it, I think it can be downloaded. If not, I can scan it for you later when I'm home.

Thank Kelly,
I have the manual, but couldn't find how to do it there. I'll have another look tonight.
I did it with my two Maxxum 7s (before one of them died) and used to have dn1 and dn2. However, with the Maxxum 9 it is not the number 0, but the letter o. So I am not sure it is possible.
If I couldn't find how to do it, I would manually change one of them.

It would appear you are correct. I read through both the camera's manual and the DM-9 manual and could not find anything. Perhaps Matthias Paul may be able to shed some light on the topic. Hopefully he will read this thread, or you may try to PM him!

Thanks again.
I just gave up and manually changed the prefix dno to dno1 for the new DM-9. Not a big story and definitely better than manually typing the data as I did without the DM-9...

The DM-9 for the Dynax 9 will store film data in files named

\FDATA?\DNO-????.TXT

where

? = 3rd digit of film number
???? = film number 1..9999 and 0 (for 10000).

Note, that the "O" in "DNO-????.TXT" is actually the letter "O", not the digit "0" (zero).

The DS-100 for the Dynax 7 will store film data in files named:

\ID?\DATA??\DN?-????.TXT

where

? = body ID number (0..9)
?? = 4th and 3rd digit of film number
???? = film number 1..9999 and 0 (for 10000).

Since the DM-9 and DS-100 store files in the FAT filesystem, directory and file names are stored in all-uppercase. VFAT long file names are not supported. Some operating systems may take the questionable liberty and display short file names in lower case in some configurations, but this is not how they are stored on disk.

It is not possible to define a body ID number for the DM-9, however, it is possible to define a 5-digit fixed number (0..99999) as part of the recorded data, displayed as "no-" in the back and listed in column "Fix No." in the .TXT files. This number can be used as a body ID number or you can use it to encode session IDs, locations, or whatever you want. If you use it as a body ID, you could write a shell script to extract this info from the DNO-????.TXT files and rename them according to the body ID.

Greetings,

Matthias
