Dear Dyxumers,

You all know about Dyxum Weekly Exhibitions - quite nice "feature" of our forum I think. Preparing it is not always an easy task - please see the "Exhibition Preparation Rules" in the above linked post. The most troublesome part of this process is neither vote handling nor compiling the exhibition - yes it takes some time to complete but it is purely "mechanical" and does not require any "philosophy" The most troublesome part is "photo harvesting" i.e. getting all candidates:
Photos for consideration for Exhibitions are "harvested" by AMAEs. Simply, each AMAE can add any photo he likes (with the restriction to the above posted eligibility rules) as a candidate for the exhibition. Other members are also welcome to assist with this process (e.g. by reporting some shot as worthy for the Exhibition)

Imagine now that some of us browse all photo subfora of Dyxum in order to provide his/her candidates. Yes, sometimes everyday, sometimes every few days. All new posts. In all subfora. I personally used to do this routinely until I got "stuffed" with it - almost sick Hopefully we have a few AMAEs who still do the great job.

Now, I think that it would be great to involve all of you in this "harvesting" process - as described in the rule cited above: Other members are also welcome to assist with this process (e.g. by reporting some shot as worthy for the Exhibition). As simple as that - if you see a photo which in your opinion is worthy of being included in the weekly exhibition - please report the post by using "Post Options"->"Report Post". You will be asked to provide some description of the "problem" - please just enter "Exhibition Candidate" and please make it clear which photo you want to add as a candidate.

For sure this will add a bit more work for us (in particular: me ) but I think it is worth it if only we will get broader selection of candidates

I hope you'll like the idea.

Best regards,
MiPr

PLEASE NOTE

The opening times for submissions for the next exhibition are generally at 08:30 Central European Time on Thursdays.

Nominations made after that time CANNOT be considered.

So only shots posted between roughly Thursday 08:30 CET week x and Thursday 08:30 CET week x+1 can be considered for the weekly exhibition of week x+1. Nominating shots from before that period will not be considered

Would be happy to be involved although not sure I am anywhere near good enough to do so since I have so much to learn, always highlighted by the fantastic POTW galleries

Previous experience not required, just an eye for a good shot.

The key point in here is that "good shot" usually has completely different meaning for different people But that's what we count on - we want to get better diversity

If it's simple to do, a new option under "Post Options" should be added for this particular reason. This way, you don't have to do the triage between posts reported for issues and those suggested for inclusion in the Exhibitions.

Not possible I am afraid. The facility is fixed in the forum application.

From an 'AE' perspective I welcome this move; whilst we try and get to see as many posts as possible during a week I think we all recognize that work and other 'duties' outside of Dyxum get in the way and this can, unfortunately, limit the amount of submissions we can achieve.

This proposal also means we get a very different and 'fresher' set of eyes to look at possible candidates and i think this can only be good news. What it might mean for MiPr one can only guess (what was that about opening Pandora's Box I hear?) but I am confident he has thought the implications through. You have thought them through, haven't you MiPr...?

I for one will be looking forward to seeing how this turns out in the coming weeks so I hope you feel encouraged to report where you see fit.

Best regards to all, Neil

The most important step MiPr can take is enlarging his email box

Great idea to let all members contribute to the candidates list for the exhibition.
Let's see how things develop. If MiPr gets flooded (and let's hope so ), I'm sure the AMAE team can rescue him!
