Jenik and Robert, you should try shying away from AWB setting. If you are at a particular event that has the same lighting throughout, your camera might throw you a curve ball and select a different WB to the previous ones. Selecting the correct WB makes fluidity in WB more appealing, at least IMHO.

A77V
• Aperture priority • Multi-segment metering • Centre spot AF or (rarely) Wide • AF-S (also got AF-A set to Direct Manual Focusing), focus peaking set to low/red • Single shooting mode (or 12 FPS, rarely) • Manual ISO control (usually between ISO100 and 400) • AWB • Front dial controls aperture, rear dial exposure compensation • SSS on • Face detection on, object tracking on (no idea what for, I never use it), DRO on • Lens compensation on • GPS off • RAW mode • For (rare) JPG shooting: Creative style set to neutral, sharpness +1, rest at 0 |

Is sharpness and other FX settings in the 7D applied to RAW or only to JPEs?

My use of AWB is deliberate since I prefer to set WB during RAW conversion when I can afford to. In cases when I must, I do change, but always default to AWB. |

Can I bump this thread? Seems no one is interested in camera settings anymore?

It was thanks to this thread that I discovered I can adjust contrast, saturation, and sharpness. I can't wait to see what that does for different scenarios.

I was so happy to find that I could adjust my LCD's contrast, saturation and sharpness but be careful though. If you use Photo Mechanic to cull your work like I do, I think the JPEGs it uses for preview are affected by these settings and your Jpegs preview might look significantly different than what the RAW files look. I was scratching my head and pulling my hair out after last wedding trying to figure out what the heck happened to my Raw files before I realized I had changed my LCD settings :)
Just so I'm not completely Off topic, my settings are: a77 Manual Mode RAW only Daylight WB most of the time - rarely use AWB Continuous Shooting Low AF-S most of the time, switch to AF-C for moving object Local AF area, focus and recompose if shooting f/4 and lower but I shoot wider aperture most of the time and getting used to moving the focus point as I need DRO Auto Priority Setup: Release AF with shutter Eye Start AF off Peaking Level High, Red LV Display ON AEL toggle AF/MF toggle Smart Telecon button = Focus Magnifier Front Dial SS, Rear Dial F/no Front curtain shutter I think I had mine off Menu start Previous so I can turn on/off SSS in exactly 4 clicks |
