The two new Sony telephoto's have been announced (rather than the recent 'bitza' seen on ebay): 200-600 and 600/f4
The price of the 200-600 seems quite reasonable; I'll leave it to others to comment on the 600/f4!

best regards, Neil.

My Mantra: "Comment on other's work as you would wish to have yours commented upon". Go on - it's fun!

The 600/4 is priced like the competition, a little higher, but also a little newer.

The 200-600 is interesting. If I had more use for a lens like this, I would probably get one for that price!

Shame the 200-600 is likely to end up 30%+ dearer here downunder, Sony Au posted the release up on their FB page with "Available from August 2019 // Pricing $TBC"
If it were around the $2K marker I might of been interested in dipping a toe into E-mount for birding rather than having serious thoughts of going A99ii.

Well, it is 2100 Euro, that is about 2400 USD - it is 20% more expensive here then in the state. But then, 2100 Euro is including VAT that is around 20% in most EU countries, so, the pricing makes sense.

Though the Sigma/Tamron 150-600's are cheaper, I think this seems like a well priced lens and looking at the first pictures worthy of the G badge.

The US price is without the state sales tax, so I find a difference of 20% between Europe and the US normal.

For me the 600/4 is a bit out of my price range (understatement of the week), but if the 200-600 is as good as the 100-400 I can see one in my future if I ever needed something longer than the FE70-300G I have now. The price is indeed a more than the Tamron/Sigma equivalents but not needing an adapter and having a native lens with internal zoom is worth something extra.
And putting it on an A6x00 will add reach without dropping the MP-count.
Mind the bandwidth of others, don't link pictures larger then 1024 wide or 960 pix high, see here

If it is as good as the 100-400, Sony can stop selling the 100-400 as the 200-600 is 800 Euro cheaper.

Or just add the extender

Well, the 200-600 "misses" the 100-200 range and is is about a 1/2 stop slower. The 100-400 is also 700 grams lighter and 10 cm shorter (at 100 mm). These things will be important for some users. So I think there is a place for both lenses in the system, even when the optical qualities are comparable.

Using the extender is another option, but at the expense of 1-2 stops of light (depending which extender you use), so when you have an A6x00 I think that's an option which has some advantages over using the 1.4x extender.

I have a pre order in on the 200-600 and I also have the 100-400. Probably keep both tbh.

A short hands on YT review of the 200-600 from Chelsea Northrup.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZdNK7m6MyA

I haven't watched it but Tony Northrup has a longer in depth review of the 600 prime with a 2x TC.

The 600/4 is a bargain!

(If you compare it only to the 400/2.8 and squint hard.
)

The 200-600 looks great and really is a bargain in FE mount G-lens land!

Actually both are (a bit surprisingly) competitively priced.

Most Sony lenses these days are competitively priced.

There are several videos around, saw one by Dpreview - all are first impressions. There are also several sample galleries around.

I was a bit hyperbolic ;) but if it is as good as the 100-400, a lot of people will go for the new kid on the block.

Going with an APS-C sensor also means about a stop difference in almost all characteristic. The AF probably will be better.

Add that the 100-400 has a much, much better minimum focus distance. It is actually even a handy backup for a macro lens with extenders and some support! Very versatile. I kind of need the 200-600 more but it would be very hard to let the 100-400 go and both makes little sense (especially financial sense).
