Just an idle question - what's the fastest UDMA CF card an a900 can utilise before the extra speed is redundant?

Not sure, but I use a Transcend TS32GCF 32GB 400x UDMA7 card in addition to a Sony MSHX8B 8GB card.

Thanks, I've got some older generation UDMA CF cards. I'm wondering if the 600x to 1000x cards will be useful or whether the extra speed will be wasted. Currently use Lexar and Sandisk cards that were zippy on my a700

Where you will notice the extra speed is in transferring images to your computer, assuming you use a high speed external reader.
I switched to a USB 3 CF reader soon after getting the A900, and noticed a big improvement in transfer times. |

Trascend UDMA7 400x 64Gb.. I have four of Transcend 400x cards and the 64Gb version UDMA7 clocks at 60Mb writing speed 32Gb version clocks at only 40Mb/s and the older UDMA version is much slower |

I have the Monster UDMA 800x 64GB card in my A850. It is sluggish compared to my old Sandisk Extreme 16GB card.
I wish I could figure it out. My Kingston card was also pretty sluggish. I guess the moral of the story is stick with Sandisk. |

Kingston had reliability problems with Sony cameras. I'll avoid them. Never heard of Monster memory cards, so, your experience tells me nothing. Had some good and some bad experience with Transcend cards. However, I really like my Lexar cards, They're quite good. However, I'm using some older Lexar Professional 300x UDMA cards in my A900 and it is plenty fast (but then again I don't push the camera in this respect).

They won't be wasted per-se especially if you're going to do a lot of sequential image shooting say for fast moving subjects, otherwise a 400x or similar will be fine. My 400x UDMA Transcend takes around 10-12 seconds in CAF sequential mode before the buffer fills, which is around 12-15 images at full size cRAW format, so not too shabby. |

Problems with Kingston cards were with the 'Elite' series - the 'Ultimates' were always some of the fastest cards in the a700 for me...
The a700 seemed to top out with a 266x card, but I've seem measurements from an a850 which gave very fast results from a Sandisk 400x (60MB/s) card - so the a850 could certainly benefit from a higher version of UMDA. some of the results on speeds with the a850 are shown in this post. |

I use both Lexar and Sandisk and have never had a problem. I used 300x with my A700 fine

300x will work, but may be slower than a 266x card in the a700...

Have some Sandisk Ultra IIs at 30mbps, and an Extreme Pro UDMA7 at 160mbps.
In a prolonged burst, the Extreme Pro gives me an extra frame or two, and is slightly quicker in clearing the buffer between bursts. Never really felt that it made a massive difference though |
