Hello,
I have a Sony DSLR-A900 digital camera that I sent to Sony Central Service in Pencoed, Wales for repair. It was returned unfixed saying it requires a replacement "Switch Block Control", and that the part is no longer available. I did enquire if Newton Ellis or BR Centre might be able to help, but they replied in the negative. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a smaller place with poor Search Engine Optimization that still works on such cameras. (Searching for Sony repairs online otherwise returns mildly iffy sites such as sonyfixed.co.uk, regionalrepaircentre.co.uk, digicammend.co.uk, etc. which seem to be cut-and-paste jobs as far as the brands they work on go). Obviously I'd prefer the work done in the UK for ease of posting, but would consider further afield if I could figure out how not to get stung by tariffs. Thanks for reading. |

Welcome to Dyxum
![]() I understand you are trying to have your old camera fixed but given its not going to be easy or possibly even cheap... perhaps worth moving on?? A900 is nearing 13 years.... Regardless here's something to get you started: Ex-minolta employee(s) used to fix minolta cameras - https://camerarepairworkshop.co.uk they might take a look at a Sony too if you ask nicely ![]() I have heard good feedback about this guy: http://www.dccr.co.uk/index.php if you don't have much luck with either I might dig out my "phone book" and see who else is on there... |

If you can get the needed parts, I guess a donor camera is probably the most likely solution, I'm sure there are some place were they will fix it.
But it might be cheaper to just buy a working A900 as a replacement. If it stops working, well all cameras do sooner or later, then maybe you could use one as a donor and fix the other. Or just sell them for parts to LAbernethy. ![]() |

I've had very good experience with Easy Repair in Deinze (Belgium), their technician that handles Sony is very knowledgable and good. He even called me to explain in great detail what repair was needed and how much it would cost. Including S&H I got my broken A850 back for just over 100 Euro. But if they don't have the part you need you'll be out of luck, but giving them a call might be a good idea.

If you go with a EU repair shop make sure you read up on the rules about the customs and in case of false charges, there is a process for claiming it back. Its bit of a pain to claim back to be honest but possible with the correct paperwork and receipts. Make sure you get those in place from your repairer.

@nandbytes
Thanks for the links. Unfortunately camerarepairworkshop has already replied in the negatory. I guess it's matchmaking for cameras then: trying to find one that has a different reason for not being fully functional. |
