Let's see some ultra wide aperture photos. And I am not talking about your slow f/1.4 lens... I am talking wider, faster! Let's see photos at f/1.2 and larger!
I guess there are not many who own the Leica 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux, but I know many here own the famous Minolta 50/1.2 and 58/1.2. And there are many options with our NEX cameras (the M-mount Nokton lenses - 50/1.1 and 35/1.2, the SLRMagic 50/0.95, maybe even f/1.4 lens with turbo adapter...) I'll start with few photos... First is a typical picture from the past 4.5 months - a picture of Ron... Ron ![]() NEX 7 + Voigtlander Nokton Aspherical 35mm F1.2 II | f/1.2 | 1/100 sec | ISO 800 The second is less typical these days... Today we left Ron with babysitter for the first time and went out to the neighborhood pub for dinner and beer. Great chance to use f/1.2 lens... If no one is going to join this Themed Views thread, I will keep adding bad photos:
End of the party ![]() NEX 7 + Voigtlander Nokton 50mm F1.1 | f/1.1 | 1/60 sec | ISO 1600 Or photos of Ron... I am less than 5 months old, and already tired of you taking pictures of me! ![]() NEX 7 + Voigtlander Nokton 50mm F1.1 | f/1.1 | 1/100 sec | ISO 800 |

Great Ryan! I am happy you joined!
Who would imagine that fast-lens thread will become babies thread... I imagined dark pubs and dark night shoots... ![]() I was always interested with that lens and it seems to preform very well. |

Great shots guys. The babies are cute (of course) and I also like the simplicity of the shoe shot.
Is 1.4 fast enough to join? Otherwise I'm not able to participate ![]() |

Seems kind of unfair, since the 35/0.95 is roughly the same overall as a 50/1.4 on my a850, but I didn't set the rules of the thread :)
rovhazman, I've got tons of photos at 0.95 (and a few with a 1.2 wide open on a lensturbo) but the reason that you won't see any is that they're bar, restaurant, campfire, and others that have friends and family in the photo. So not too many examples to post! On the Mitakon, I find it performs extremely well wide open for what I need it for. Chromatic aberration at 0.95 is horrendous in bright high contrast scenes, though, but if it's bright you don't need the aperture, anyway. |

That's a tough decision - after all, not much difference between f/1.4 and f/1.2... Especially when the later is used on APS-C...
But the point was to give a stage to some of the less common lenses. f/1.4 is more 'standard', while f/1.2 and larger is more special lens. So let's keep it f/1.2 and larger. We can start another Themed view thread - Wide Open - to post photos taken wide open, whatever the aperture is in the lens. |

Ryan, I totally understand. I also filter most of my photos because my friends and family don't like to become public...
Also the Nokton lenses (35/1.2 and 50/1.1) suffers from strong chromatic aberration wide open in bright light. I believe it is expected. The reason I eventually picked the Voigtlander 35/1.2 over the Mitakon is the dream about FF mirrorless camera. One day... And when that day comes, I want to be ready... Jalu, nice photos! I remember the Nikkor 50/1,4 from your July challenge, and it is a nice lens, but too slow for here. ![]() The Rokkor 58/1.2 is great one and it is a great photo! Is it really wide open? My 58/1.2 is not that sharp wide open... |

Great ones, Jalu!
Maybe I should take my 58/1.2 out again and see whether I was just bad with MF... Now with the focus peaking I should be able to get the focus right. |
