I've been sort of directed here by @waldo_posth so how can I say no to this challenge?
![]() Reading through the long lists of 50mm lenses by others in this thread I'd better go and count mine............ |

.............. so that's one. Zeiss Loxia 50 f2. I think I'll use that then, with either a7iii or a7rivA. Edit: I do have the minuscule Leica Elmar collapsible 50mm f3.5 for my M2 and it does fit the a7rivA with an LM-NEX adapter, but I couldn't risk the possibility of it punching my lovely new 61mp sensor. So that will remain in the Leica bag. Edited by bonneville - 06 December 2021 at 12:01 |

One is all you need and you even have two!
The collapsible should stay clear from the sensor plane as it also stays clear from the film on your M2. Anyway, welcome back ![]() |

No other Leica collapsible extends as far into the body as the 50mm Elmar. The Leica forums advise against collapsing it when using a digital body (Leica). I have considered getting one and decided against it because of this issue. The 3,5cm Elmar seems to be shorter and and seemingly can be collapsed into a Sony A7 body without harming the sensor.
There is a workaround, though: Using rubber bands, tape or zip ties to keep the lens from collapsing. Edited by waldo_posth - 06 December 2021 at 14:20 |

I can confirm that you shoudn't collapse the 50/3.5 Elmar on a digital (Sony) body. The sensor is indeed on the same place as the film, but there's about a 1-2 mm thick glass on top of the sensor that touches the back of the lens when fully collapsed.

Thank you. You have confirmed my concerns and I will not be using it for this challenge, unless of course I decide to put it on the Leica, finish a roll of film that is in the camera, develop it in the recently acquired Lab-Box, scan it and make it a shot for one of the seven days.
Now there's an idea ![]() |

Ah, the glass cover of sensor. Did not think about it and if I did I would think that would make a difference.
Makes me wonder how Pieter knows..... |

How could I have missed this thread?
![]() With 16 lenses at 50mm and 8 ones from 51 to 58mm I have some tough choices to make too, but there is almost a week left to decide (and hope for better weather ....). Anyhow I'll pick one lens a day. |
