I've hidden several posts and ask everybody to keep a level head and discuss equipment technical issues and pro's/con's they see and not personally attack each-other's logic or nit-pick unimportant items. That's of no interest to anyone.

Mind the bandwidth of others, don't link pictures larger then 1024 wide or 960 pix high, see here

Thanks for the comparison. It reflects what I've seen - less elaborated though - on other pages like dpreview. Personally I don't care about the SLT-mirror either; I don't think of inner parts of the camera while shooting, but I do enjoy the massive increase in functionality and picture quality compared to the a850 - a camera that has already given me a lot of joy and many nice pictures.
IMHO most of the discussion about the mirror reflects an all too human approach to any given technical advance: Whatever we got, it's never enough. That's the motor of progress on one hand, on the other most of us will never be fully content. |

Thanks, Pegelli. I'm sure none of us mind an enthusiastic technical discussion, but this was getting rather out of proportion quite aside from the manners aspect. It's all too easy to get carried away by our enthusiasms; I'm sure we have all had strong opinions on specific things we would have said were very important and then found in the end they weren't. I know I have.
With Sony we have some great cameras to choose from, whether mirror or mirrorless- which compare very well with other offerings from other manufacturers. We ought not to lose sight of that. I recall the times at the end when Minolta was failing and we might have lost the mount altogether. If we had known then that we'd be getting the likes of the A900, the A99ii, and many others, we'd have been not just relieved, but delighted at the investment Sony would be putting in, and the quality of the results-and I think I can safely say- little short of amazed at the kit we are enjoying now. My 2ps worth from reading posts here- I wonder if it might help a-mount if there was a cheaper a-mount FF body- it might tempt more people into the a-mount FF lens system? That's one area where there really isn't a lot of choice for the new adopter. It would also be a good back-up body for those who have an A99ii or 99 but are tight on cash, would like a back-up, but don't need it to have all the features of a £3,000 body. Just a thought. |

Thanks, Pieter! I already started another thread a few days ago when I noticed that this thread more and more became a discussion over who had which opinion than about the topic in the header. Even before that too many posts were off topic. |

I Like it!
I hope it has the SLT mirror and off-sensor PDAF though! ![]() And the price is much too high. Should be << $2000. |

Agreed about price tag. But if it has hybrid AF then yes it has OSPDAF. Below 2000$ of this with 36Mpix which is already perfect and they would sell loads of them ![]() Please a full articulated screen though ![]() |

We all hope for a bright A-mount future... but for the present I'm going to shoot this afternoon. Using my A77 i.c.w. CZ 16-80 on a 120cm slider. And for the first time I'll bring out the Bigma, exiting!

I like one, although I probably cannot afford that amount of money. for € 1800 it would be very tempting alternative for A68/A77ii |

If they want to sell loads of it, they have to put it max at the same price tag as A7iii = FF entry point. |

Maybe not. If an A88 has 36 mpix it is sufficiently different from A7iii. Depends on complete list of specs. |

What is the future of a mount?
I think its a very good question and will be answered in ways we cant even dream about, it seems every 'Sonycantdothis" has been done: cant have full-frame stabilized, cant stabilize E mount, cant full frame E mount, cant have EVF that's worth a damn, etc. Heck they could have a button to shoot thermal in 15 years or use software that's built in that makes a $500 lens perform like a $3000 lens. What would make my day would be a global E shutter and have flash sync at 1/1500 or some crazy number. I have no idea what Sony has coming to replace a99ii, what ever it is it will be 2 years or maybe 3 years out, unless something truly disruptive is invented/made. Sony has a lot of smart people and there only job is to get our money its that simple. All I want is a camera that works every time, that I don't need to update the firmware every 3 months because they need a "fix", that's more responsive than the one I have in my hands, and makes photography easier, that's priced at a point that I "need it" and not "want it" hopefully it's A mount compatible. |
