When we were motorhoming around Britain we were told an interesting story by one of the other campers.
Their daughter was living with a guy who siad he was aoff to Wembley to hear his dad play. Now the boyfriend must have changed his surname and never talked about his father too much or she was sdaly lacking in music knowledge, because when she asked who he was and what band he replied -
Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler

Lost another icon of American music today, one of those rare artists who no one else could copy and was a genre all of his own. RIP Mac

Another Dr John song, this one performed by Warren Haynes on a night quite a few years ago celebrating the musical mojo that is Dr John. Side note: I just love it when Warren joins another group of musicians and by the end everybody has a smile on their face

Mark K. in concert w/b so nice!!! lucky you! any pics?

something else?

when behind the comp., there is usually music in the BG. all kinds of music, blues as well.
youtube will automatically pick the next 'songs', when too busy to select 'your own' music, so one day 'this' came along.
in between songs.
(I had never heard of 'christian comedy' before. (I'm not religious. yet very spiritual?).
couldn't believe what they were saying! these people are deeply religious though, no mocking?).

ROFL, under the table, LMAO

just listening to these again:

(starts after 2 min.s. "were you born in a barn?" )

I can quite believe that - he is the most unassuming, quiet and reserved guy I think I've seen on stage; I'd also heard a story a few years ago about a guy that went into a music/guitar shop in the NE of England looking to buy a new guitar: he chose a model and started getting used to it in the shop by playing a few riffs etc. Someone then ambled up and said something like "That's not bad; can you do this?" and played a few riffs of his own. The response from the guy was along the lines "that's easy - bet you can't do this though..." and proceeded to descend into something much more complex. Which, of course the other guy then matched and bettered. After they'd finished, the buyer said "Hey; that's pretty good! What's your name?" "Mark Knopfler" was the response.... I understand that the other guy has gone on to play professionally except I can't recall who it is.... But I think it would be so typical of MK to be so unassuming in that situation.
My Mantra: "Comment on other's work as you would wish to have yours commented upon". Go on - it's fun!

XTC - Oranges and Lemons

Heard that music decades ago - and I am still struck how good they are. Came across them when I did some research on psychedelic rock of the 70s (mail-ordered "Fragile" by Yes as a CD, eventually).

$4 million for a Stratocaster? Yeah, if it was used to record some of the greatest guitar riffs and solos ever.
