Fry's stocks lenses? Good ones too? Thats pretty odd for an electronics store.

Wow, Fry's stocks the A700?! Never thought of looking there. I'll have to visit the Manhattan Beach store. I went to the Ritz Camera in El Segundo just down the street from Fry's (on Rosecrans, near REI) the other morning and they said they won't carry the A700, nor the Canon 40D, nor the Nikon D300 -- just the entry level DSLRs. The guy suggested I go to the new Samy's in Culver City.

I noticed a Bel Air camera "no sales tax" ad the other weekend in the Times for an A700 kit (18-70 lens). A nice way for the local camera stores to compete with the big web guys. Almost got me to go to the store, but I don't want the kit lens. I know Samy's does the "no tax" promotion from time to time too.

BTW, Paul's Photo in Torrance sponsors an L.A. Zoo photo day each year. This year it's on Sunday 11/18, their 18th year. Might be a good time for the L.A. area Dyxumers to get together ... it's a $100 though, but includes some workshops, breakfast, lunch, t-shirt and shooting ops. Go to http://www.paulsphoto.com for more info. I'd like to go, but have too many commitments already.

Can we get a head count for this. Its tomorrow.

Where:

The Bolsa Chica Reserve is located at the north side of Huntington Beach, on the east side of PCH, (Pacific Coast Highway). The reserve is bounded on the north by Warner Avenue. The entrance is about a mile south of Warner street on the east side of PCH, across from Huntington State Beach.

When:

7:00am Nov. 3rd Saturday (yeah its early, not my idea)

Unfortunatelsy I will not be able to attend. I was wondering if anyone else on Dyxum was from SoCal. I live in Anaheim Hills. Hopefully we can do another meetup. Happy shooting

For another So Cal option, there's going to be a Grand opening of the relocated Western Museum of Flight. It's at Torrance Municipal Airport.
There will be some classic warbirds doing flyovers from 11am to 3pm Sunday for anyone who likes shooting aircraft.

I'm sorry I missed this thread. I live in San Diego and would have enjoyed the chance to meet up with you all and shoot some photos.

If you are up for another meet, I would be glad to join in.

For those of you that love planes, the Red Bull Air Races will be in San Diego May 3, 4. We could shoot from the Coronado side of the bay and use Downtown San Diego as the backdrop. That's just an idea, but if you did want to get together, I would be glad to meet somewhere in the middle, like Bolsa Chica Reserve.

@learningbokeh -- did you make it to the air races? Was wondering if you posted any pics.

@lomitamike -- we should have a South Bay meet up. I still haven't been to the new Western Museum of Flight. We should head there one afternoon, shoot some of their static displays. I think they are open a few times a week ... anyone else nearby?

I did make it, it was great, although I liked the helicopters as much as the planes personally. I took some pictures, but haven't gotten to posting any yet. My friend's Mom died last week, and asked me to take some pictures while they had relatives in town, so I have been busy with that.

I should be able to post some Air Race pictures soon, thanks for asking!
Until then, here is one I posted for the contest this month:

Hi all, just joined the forum and thought I'd post here... I'm currently in the Inland Empire, moving to Ventura county in a month or so. I drive all over-particularly down to San Diego (I love the Zoo and Wild Animal Park).

I'd love to meet up with other photographers as it's always just me out on my own...

I'm interested too. I live in Encinitas and would be glad to meet somewhere between San Diego and Ventura!
