I'm from central Indiana and would love to get to Southern Indiana sometime. Although I am changing jobs and I won't have vacation for a while :-( But a long weekend would be a possibility!

I grew up in Indiana and Illinois, so a trip back there for a long weekend using my miles would be put to good use. I'll keep an eye on this post for sure. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan or Missouri...Missouri has alot of nice areas, lots of farms, lakes and rock formations. That's my vote.

I was just down in Kansas City and also down into Springfield/Ava, MO...no time for pictures - didn't even bring a camera. Just a quick wedding and some quick business, and lots of driving/sleeping in the car. Southern MO did seem pretty nice - about 10-11 hour drive from here though :/

since I don't have persmission to post new topics, I was going to sugest that the "meeting" forum is hidden. I didn't know it existe until I saw recent posts on the homepage.
Perhaps the webmaster should consider meet-ups or meetings on the main menu? Might have more hits. |

I'm the Moderator with responsibility for this bit - I keep an eye on most stuff here or if I don't respond in a day or two feel free to PM me... I take it you are not suggesting that we should hide the forum, but that it is not visible enough? We are trying to do more to give the meetings higher profile and would welcome any feedback... A good way to find out about what is happening on the forum is to use the 'filter posts' drop down menu - this allows you to see any topics that have had new postings, or the last 200 posts, or whatever... there is a lot there in Dyxum and a lot of it is good... :-) |

thanks Bob. No I meant that you might have more particpation if this forum was listed under it's own heading (on the main menu) rather then hidden in a subfolder. I've been on this board for a year now and just discovered the "meeting" forum today.
I have no heartburn about my permissions or level on where I post. I think you guys running the board are doing a great job & have no complaints or desire to try to "run" things. Just a simple suggestion. My hope is that shooters in the midwest might find some common interest and could have a meet-up. For example, I love motorsports and find that Barber Park in Birmingham AL is great for Superbikes. I plan to go to Indy next year for the Moto GP race too. (hey Indy shooters, I haven't been to the track since 2000, where's the best place for the new layout?) Someone with similiar interests might met me at those tracks. I already meet fellow motorcycle riders in forums like this. thanks again Bob

I'd like to see a meeting in Missouri too. The mountain scenery around Lake Of the Ozarks, Osage Beach area is absolutely fantastic. I am in Wisconsin which ain't too shabby either but my vote is for Lake Of The Ozarks.

Let's set a date for Lake of the Ozark's this fall. The weather and a fall color should be a winner.

We can reserve a cabin for up to 6 people in Lake Of The Ozarks State Park for $40.00 a night. They are primitive cabins with no electricity but community toilet and shower facilities just a short distance. I have a portable power pack that runs both AC and DC stuff we may need. Bring lanterns that run off kerosene or batteries --or your own power pack if you have one. They cost about $90 if you want to know. I have a lantern too. They furnish some firewood. Bring sleeping blankets. I have my own cocoon too. It would be great that we all get into a cabin --or two if we can get as many as 12 people to go, more would be fantastic. We need a place to get together to chat, compare and learn from each other so these cabins would bring us together much better than if we scattered around the area in hotels motels or WalMart parking lots.
I would like to suggest September 21-22-23, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We need to make reservations as soon as possible. I will take responsibility for renting one cabin and collect equal splits from y'all. If you have experience and know this area, please step up with suggestions on where to go but I know it's all pretty durn nice. I just may go ahead and rent a cabin and go alone if necessary. Here is a link to the cabin details and there are many websites on the park as well: Ozarks Cabin |

Where in Western Iowa are you? 'NUFan' and I are in Omaha, Nebraska. I know of one other KM dSLR user in Ekhorn, NE. BUT that's it. I would be glad to be at a Dyxum Meeting, but it'd have to be in October for me, as I will be travelling to Malaysia in September. |

Shercando, good idea for a weekend photo shoot. Sign me up. The weather should be a bit cooler and the late summer wildflowers should make for some great shots. |

Missouri...that's exactly where I wanted to go!
I was intending on taking a week off in September anyway, so I may be in as well. Unfortunately, I'm not so much of an outdoorsy kind-a-guy, so I would probably be more into a room with electricity and indoor plumbing. :) Shercando has a great plan, and I don't want to say anything to change it, but I was wondering if another one or two people/couples (for you husband/wife(GF) teams) would like to stay a little farther south - on the shore of Table Rock Lake, just south of Kimberling City. Only reason I ask, I can stay at a time-share resort condo that has plenty of room (1400 SF) to sleep three couples. It has two bedrooms/two baths, and a pull out sofa -- and a kitchen of course. Kimberling City is located just about 20 minutes from Branson, a hot tourist spot, so evenings could be fun too. (or that could be a selling point for the significant other to come) I checked out the State Parks near this area and found Roaring River State Park, which has some incredible sounding trails, including one along the river, rock outcroppings everywhere, a waterfall, a lookout tower, 19th century gristmill, old homesteads, birds and plenty of wildflowers. It sounds nice! The weekend that Shercando suggested would work for me also, only a little geographically closer to my free room and board w/ electricity would suit me a better. Anyone interested in trying to make arrangements for that part of the state, drop me a PM or email. I'll be coming with my girlfriend who has just started her hobby with photography.
