But their hasn't been much response here yet over this either :( Perhaps everyone is caught up in the Sony release... :(
Either way, it depends on what people are after, as well as accessability... |

Suggested SonA because I lived there for a few years a very long time ago and I know there's more to it than the tourist stuff.
However, second thoughts say Birmingham is a better bet...accessible by train and I'm thinking the canal bit, Gas Street. |

I think it is down to the release; I lost sight of it myself, and I'm supposed to have special responsibility for moderating this bit! people will come back though - in fact have you noticed how busy the photograph forums have got in the last few days? So far there are four possible takers, I think we just need to get the number of posts up to make it more visible - there is a possibility of another Dutch meet coming up soon, which might get people looking at the meeting threads :-) Edited by Bob Janes - 12 September 2007 at 16:39 |

Yes, but you're still allowed to have bad days and low days and days you just wanna spend on other things. ;)
I don't know how to take this further. As for people interested, there would be some locals joining in. Blake would be one, I'd think. And of course you know Matthew from April :) I've no major probably with roaming. If it were in Coventry then within the city centre there are a few nice areas, including the Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church, the urban side of the city and the Motor Museum. If you fancy a bit of nature there is the Canal Basin and part of the Canal network. So, numbers? Where shall we start :D |

Saturdays are probably best for me, but I could do a Sunday at a pinch (depending on family commitments).

Birmingham has some nice museums as well as the canals and the like. It has been a few years since I have been there, but with a bit of planning we can move forwards. It's just waiting on numbers and names. It would be nice to have more people from the midlands there too ;) Elwyn |

Friday/Saturday best for me during Oct/Nov [might even work well with the "One Prime" challenge] - and Birmingham easy enough to get down to - as mentioned previously, not sure a weekend would be good for the Black Country museum, but if there are other museums & canalside architecture etc then that sounds good... ...so count me in for one. ...missed this bit before responding re Brum - Coventry would be good too, and having never been there [that I can recall] would enjoy being given the guided tour [ideal days/mths as above...] Cheers IDM |

A 'guided tour' might be a bit much for me, I'm not a native to the area, and I would probably need to plan carefully where to go in either Birmingham or Coventry.
Weekends are probably a good time for me as well. So far I think there are 3 on the list! Bob, me, Ian and possibly Catlady. However, Stratford upon Avon is a nice place to visit, but likewise I don't know much about that area. Even less than Coventry. But there are resources available :) The only thing to consider are the places that close down after the prime tourist summer months.... |

Well, I live in Birmingham so a Midlands meet is an almost certainty for me to get in on.
I missed the Greenwich one, much to my frustration, so won't miss a Midlands meet. One thing I must declare right now. Birmingham did not fire my interest in photography and I have incredibly few photos of the place itself so I'm not just the person to ask for ideas. Sad, I know, but the place just doesn't inspire me and maybe it should. I think it's a "can't see the trees for the wood thing", if you'll pardon the twisting of the phrase. It's always there and always has been as I've lived here all my life. I get most turned on by photographing places I visit that I've not been to before but maybe it would be a good thing to get out there with you guys and almost be "forced" into doing something I never do. There is stuff to shoot, it is just my jaded, blinkered view of the familiar that stops me doing it. It could be an excellent shove out of my comfort zone for me. If that makes sense! In fact, the more of this I type, the more ridiculous my previous thinking feels but also cathartic this prospect is sounding to me! As I'm in for the "One prime lens challenge for October" I'd better find some things to shoot in Brum or I won't make it! Anyhoo, Birmingham or anywhere else in the Midlands, I'm in. Also, although there is a a cross-post reference here - Ian fancies a go with a 300/4 from another thread, it'll be Bengeo's or mine by the sound of it - check out my line-up. If you want to have a play with any lenses I have for the day I am happy to bring along any that are of interest. |

Richard - sounds like a good opportunity - thanks - but if (a) the Midlands meet is in Oct & (b) if I'm gonna join the "One Prime", I guess I'll have to ask for a "testing" pass coz there's no way I'm gonna manage the 300/2.8 for a month [my arms just wouldn't take the strain!] Hope things come together & we can try the two out - really curious to see if all that extra glass is worth the weight! - and I'm sure there must be some architectural details that will make good tests for 'em Cheers IDM |

Ian,
TBH, if there is a Dyxum meet in the UK in October I think it would be good if the participants are granted a "bye" for the day on the Challenge. Otherwise that restricts me to the 100 SF for it and also applies restrictions to others, like you, which may take a bit of the fun out of the day. Problem is, it does rather defeat the objective of the "Prime Challenge" as well! Otherwise, we'll have to work something else out. I don't think you are too far from me - Notts/Derbs from memory? |
