I did wonder if it would be no bad thing, since it's all too easy to fall into the trap of 'hmmm, that looks like an interesting shot they're taking - I'll get one too' - I'm as guilty of it as the next man - whereas if we all have different FLs or image-parameters it might help by making one think more about how a similar object/view looks with those differences - not sure if others would agree ??? ...but certainly, could try another, separate meet [outside "prime-time"] to compare the 300s - one idea that has just occurred is Twycross Zoo [L9 admit] - went there about this time last year and found myself using the 75-300D [at 300] quite a lot, so might be worth considering - and I'd guess its about mid-way between us ? - and similar distance for Elwyn & others too if interested ? Cheers IDM |

Do we actually want to launch this as a meeting now? - I know we don't have a time (or place), but we could always load those in after... If people are in agreement I will lift the relevant posts from 'where next' and use them to start the new one...
...I'm sure a Bye is applicable here - musta admit if such a thing had been permitted last time I may well have done it - but I had the tour going past the bottom of my road, and I didn't think I could shoot it with a 24 (as it happened I couldn't shoot it very well with a tele-zoom, but I'll mark that one down to experience!) |

Bob - if you wanted to come up for it I could meet you at Loughborough or Long Eaton [my local (little) station] - but the return fare is L50+ [as I found earlier in the year...] - so if MarkT sets up another day at the Cat Survival Trust [already discussed at last meet & elsewhere - possible 300mm compare with Bengeo] later in the year that might be easier/cheaper to get to... Train costs may depend on how long you book in advance, but I think I might be tempted to drive in any case - Should be able to reach Brum in 3 hours, but it takes 90 mins to get to Euston or Kings X/St P from where I live... If anyone else was coming up from the London area I could maybe give them a lift :)

Another suggestion in the Midlands area following an afternoon out - Lichfield
...certainly plenty of architecture - the cathedral is free to enter [as far as I know - didn't go in today as special ceremony taking place] - and plenty of other old buildings within easy walking distance. Cheers IDM |

I could say the same about Coventry :D Architecture, Modern stuff, Urban, and a few nice bits too ;) I've not been to Lichfield much, mostly with work, but I have the resources locally to make up a plan. Link The New Cathedral (next door to the old one, which wasn't a cathedral but was originally just a church.... I think...) The Bronze Statues The Old Cathedral (see above) The Council House The Whittle Arches (I wondered what they were called :)) St Marys' Guildhall The Herbert Gallery (another place I've not been to yet) Coventry Transport Museum (oooh, I've been here :D) Holy Trinity Church On the outskirts we've got places such as the Coventry Air Museum. It's not as large as other places, but the time I went there it had a fair bit of stuff for quite a small site. Next door there is a train museum but I don't think that's open yet :( The War Memorial Park is just down the road, and has the Park and Ride carpark next to it, which is an option for those driving up. Apparently thre is an avairy there too, which I didn't know :( There are plenty of old buildings in Coventry, old structures and history. I've mainly concentrated near the Cathedral because I've not dug much into the other history yet. Slow coach and all ;) My 'Coventry' Flickr Set And I suppose it would do some good to get out and explore the local area. |

I'd love to come to this, but I'm going to be in Mexico from the 21st of October 'till the 11th of November so if it's between those dates I obviously wouldn't be able to make it. Birmingham or Coventry would be fine for me as I can easily get the train there from York.

OK, do we want Bob to get this underway ? - I can't do the weekend of 6th, so [purely selfish] how about 13th or 14th for either Coventry or Birmingham - not sure if the Sunday is better to avoid shoppers, or are the city centres both big enough to avoid these ? ...I won't be looking for a "prime pass" unless Richard & I both bring our 300s [prob. won't carry it around with me!] so will be glad to go somewhere new with just the 5D+28mm. How about it - how many can make those days, or prefer earlier/later ??? Cheers IDM |

I've got a party to go to that Saturday evening, which I think would rule me out for both days...

The middle two weekends would be OK for me. I wouldn't be able to do the 6/7th or 27/28th as it currently stands.

13th or 14th would be the best for me. I have an Open University exam on the 8th so the 6th or 7th wouldn't be so good. The 20th and 21st weekend I'll be off to Mexico.
I won't be upset if the consensus is for another weekend. My life isn't usually so hectic, so I'm sure I'd be able to make the next one, wherever that may be. :) |
