I'm interested.
Oxford is on my doorstep, but I could cope with further distances. North Wales would require an overnight stop or two. I'm happy with short notice - though, obviously, there will be times I cannot make. City visits are probably a safer bet until the weather improves - they tend to have indoor and outdoor alternatives. I'm happy with weekday or weekend. |

Oxford sounds good to me. Needs to be a Saturday or Sunday but not too much in the diary yet

This is a positive start, thanks everyone.
I'll start a list and as the plan grows we can expand it. Bob, perhaps a separate thread for this proposed meet? Expressing an interest so far: 01. bonneville 02. Bob J 03. alanfrombangor 04. mgjsmith 05. Howard_S 06. nandbytes 07. Phil Wood 08. Tricky01 09. IanC 10. owenn01 (+1?) 11. ? Oxford is looking possible. To make it a worthwhile trip I would consider a one or two night B&B/Travel Inn. Howard/Phil as this is your stamping ground would you have any suggestions for events, time of year, locations etc? Howard knows Oxford far better than I, but there is plenty of architecture from old churches and colleges to dramatic modern creations. In the case of wet weather there are indoor locations like the covered market, museums and churches. And there are always bustling street scenes and relaxing parks and canal/river walks. Covid has reduced access to some extent, but there is plenty to see and do - and plenty of pubs, street food, restaurants, cafes etc.
It's a fairly compact city and generally on the level. The only event I know of in the not too distant future is Oxford Artweeks in May - lots of exhibitions of all varieties of art (including one involving Howard and myself among others). |

I agree - when my daughter lived in Carterton I was a frequent visitor to Oxford and loved every minute of my visits, including the many and varied refreshment rooms!! |

Thanks for remembering that, Phil!
A group of us (around 10 photographers) are participating in Artweeks and we are exhibiting (virus willing) in the Andrew Wiles Building in the site of the old Radcliffe Infirmary, at the city end of the Woodstock Road (now known as the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter). This is an architecturally interesting area and there are pubs with gardens nearby. The canal is not far away and Port Meadow offers wide open vistas and a riverside pub (The Perch at Binsey). With a bit of thought a coherent route could be put together, tables could be booked for a meal, and local photographers could offer to speak to the photos on display. The exhibition runs 9-27 May, Mon-Fri, and there might be one or two weekend openings (TBC). |

I'm open to a meeting (or two) this year. I'm keen to visit Alan's part of the world and happy to try other locations too. Having said that, Some locations may require an overnight stay and depending on me being free from other commitments. I did visit Oxford once, only for a part of a day, but as it was unplanned and at short notice I only wandered round aimlessly! It would be nice to revisit with informed guides. I'm open to other suggestions for locations or events.

Ian, I've added your ID to the EOI list above.
Oxford is certainly coming to the top in general chat. To make it worthwhile it would probably involve an o/n the day before so that I am fresh and ready (at 74?? ![]() |

Hi Folks,
A very outside chance I may be able to make it (probably along with Mrs Owenn01 even) but that really depends on dates etc. as work will likely 'ratchet up' if and when the Covid situation really settles down and we are Add my name to the list and I will try as much as possible to come along - Oxford is also one of our favourite cities after visiting a couple of times in the past, but 'insider knowledge' would make that much better! Take care all and best regards, Neil. |

My Mantra: "Comment on other's work as you would wish to have yours commented upon". Go on - it's fun!

Welcome Neil, you are on the list. Hope as many as possible can make it when we settle on a date in the future.
Shall we focus on the location as Oxford city? Thank you for stepping up to assist us with guidance Howard and Phil. It is almost Feb and we will soon be looking forward to shaking off the cold weather. I'll shortly post up an editable list of dates that suit the majority of us so, I invite everyone to start looking forward to dates you know you will not be available and hopefully we'll come up with a selection that will fit for the majority, if not everyone ![]() Brian |

Rather a cheeky long shot, but I'll be in Birmingham on 24th March and Oxford is only another hour away so Wednesday 23 Mar would be perfect for me

Yes, that works for me too, and I'm happy to make it a mini meet if other dates emerge for a bigger group.
