Thanks all for throwing hats of interest into the ring. How about throwing a few locations about, and it doesn't matter if they are too far for some, we need ideas if only to narrow down options.

I'll start with Peterborough (beautiful cathedral too) and Nene Valley Railway nearby?

Iíve fallen for nature recently, how about doing something more rural? Iím Reading based but itís all a bit flat around here, maybe thereís somewhere roughly equidistant for everyone that could steer us - if itís just 4-5 of us that might be possible to coordinate?

I am flexible with location, but unfortunately for me, it will be a weekday thing later in the week.

To start the nature ball rolling, how about somewhere in the Chilterns, NE of the M40 and SW of Luton? There are a number of locations that are NT based, e.g. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/chilterns-countryside.

Also BBOWT has some small reserves and there's College Lake for birding possibilities, https://www.bbowt.org.uk/nature-reserves/college-lake.

People may know of other places - I'm by no means an expert on these, but they are outside the places I normally poke around in.

I'd be interested in a DM - but I'd be more interested in urban than rural.

I'm interested but particiation will depend on when and where, I've a number of family commitments to schedule during the autumn. I'd like to propose Liverpool for consideration, as well as the city itself there are the Gormley statues at Crosby and Birkenhead has photographic potential.

I'd also be interested in Liverpool and Crosby, but I'd probably go by train and I'd be in Liverpool from ~1pm to 7pm. Needs plenty of advance notice too.

Edit: if we're thinking Urban, is Birmingham a good/better candidate? I hardly know the place ...

I think Liverpool would be too much of a stretch for me, literally on the opposite side of the country. Birmingham is certainly much more "central" and a quick google brought up this site for some photo opportunity examples. So another vote for Brum here.

Edit: Although you would have to promise not to spend the entire day here!

I am familiar with bits of Birmingham, but I know Alan knows (knew) it well. I'd certainly take part if the timing is right. Liverpool I barely know at all, so it would be even more interesting, I'd happily do both.

In terms of rural I'd be interested in land/seascape opportunities a lot more than flora and fauna.

We are soon going to need......... Bob. Firstly it wouldn't be a UKDM without him and secondly he could help with a voting thread for where, weekday or weekend and month/day options.

Batman was called in Gotham by projecting an arc light with a bat mask into the sky. We need something similar with an ancient TLR mask

Brum and Liverpool sound great, and @Phil, great to have a spin-off rural landscape / seascape event too

I'm keeping an eye on discussions with great interest.. I'll attend if I can (always happy to flex the railcard), but don't think I should influence the venue or timing.

Thanks Bob. It would be great if we get this off the ground and you can make it.

Let's kick it about for another week to give others an opportunity to find this and see if we can attract further interest, and then I'll list a few options to try and narrow them down to, hopefully, arrive at a best choice for the most. (I appreciate we are going to struggle to fit with everyone's flexibility).
