I'd consider Dungeness if I could tie it in with the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway.

As for Birmingham, I have recent experience so I'm willing to act as the guide if required. I suggest we meet at the Moor Street/Bull Ring exit from New Street station around 9:30 when Brian's train is due to arrive. Those of us staying overnight could photograph the reflections from the mirrored exterior and photograph inside the concourse if we get there earlier.

So. Wednesday 20th March wandering around the city for the day...

I'm probably up for it but I may not make it until noon or early afternoon but I can stay out until very late if required.

I'm currently a PM driver in the company, which means they'll have my body from 11am until 8am the next day if they fiddle with my hours (standard is 1pm to 4am though) on my last work day (Sat-Tues).

So. Yeah, PM Wednesday for me onwards I'll probably also bring my car into the city but it only has room for 2 passengers if we were going far from the centre.

The other option is if there was something happening on the Tuesday, such as the NEC, I could try and get a day of holiday and make it a 2 day photo event

A good plan on both counts.

I'm planning on going to NEC for the Photo Show on the Tuesday, but I haven't looked at it as a photo-op. Happy to meet up if you're there.

How about this for a plan...

Meet 09:30 at the MoorStreet/Bull exit from New Street station.

Selfridges building
Covered with large metallic buttons, lots of abstract possibilities. Opposite Moor Street station which we can visit if thereís any interest in railway architecture.

Digbeth
Buildings and graffiti around Floodgate street.
Custard factory area
The Old Crown pub, Heath Mill Lane, Birminghamís oldest secular building dating from 1368
Cast iron Victorian urinal under the railway bridge in Allison Street

National Trust back to backs, 55-63 Hurst Street/50-54 Inge Street
One of the last surviving courts of back-to-back houses in Britain.
Guided tour and advance booking, could photograph from outside or wing it for admission.

The Mailbox, 84 Severn Street
Giant Red Desktop Lamp

The cube hotel
Modern architecture

Walk along the canal, photo and refreshment possibilities

Black Sabbath Bridge

Library
Iíve not been inside but subtle photography seems to be acceptable.

Centenary Square
Modern architecture near the Victorian and Edwardian buildings of the city centre.

If we've not already lunched, the Old Joint Stock pub here in the city centre is a good option.

Google map

If there's time and appetite for more, we could venture into the Jewellery Quarter. I hope we can link up with Elwyn at some point. I'll be staying overnight so could continue late but I expect others will need to get home.

How about this for a plan? It looks like an excellent plan to me, someone who has never been to Birmingham city before. And a marked map too!

Alan, youíll get your Dyxum meet guide badge for this

Thank you

Brian

Nice to have a plan - thanks Alan

New St Station is a photo opportunity in itself - the reflective cladding is great fun.

Moor St Station is worth a short visit for the old railway architecture.

I have taken photos inside the Library with no comment from staff - whether they would be so tolerant of a group of us we will have to find out.

I am really looking forward to it (and a rare post box in Digbeth).

Phil

We have a proposal to go to the Old Contemptibles pub for a meal on Tuesday evening, for those that can manage it. Do we need to book, and for how many?

Interest expressed by

Phil
Howard

Anyone else?

Does 7:30pm work?

Really sorry UK meeters but I am now unable to get away for the planned Birmingham meet later this month. Iím still hoping to visit the Photo Show at the NEC on the Saturday in case anyone else is likely to go on the same day.

I am disappointed but hope the weather is good for you and look forward to seeing your photographs from the day.

The landslip and consequent rail replacement bus means I'm unlikely to make it to the pub, but we can exchange phone numbers in case the delay isn't too severe, I'll PM mine as its a different number.

Shall we still arrange to meet by New Street Station at 09:30?

I'm about to book a table at the pub for a meal, and yes Weds 9:30 a.m. at New Street is good.

Is there anyone beyond Phil, Alan, and myself confirmed as being there on Weds and/or Tuesday (for the pub)?

Iím still hoping to make it on Wednesday, but itís probably gonna be lunchtime onwards.

Edit: Iíve now booked the parking space in the middle of Birmingham for the car; and reasonably near the endpoint of the plan.

Change of plan. Off on Tuesday, going to the NEC photo with another friend in the afternoon.

Will take the train over, and back again. Not sure about the evening but that is a possibility as well.

I will read out when I have a chance on the thread, but a meal on Tuesday evening is also a possibility.
