The show runs from Saturday to Tuesday 16-19 March. I'm open to any dates at this stage; I wonder if it is possible to combine a meet-up and a stroll around the show in one day - it might be a bit much to do both? I'm a neophyte when it comes to Brum outside the NEC!

I shall be attending the Photography Show again next year (actual day TBD), as I have done several times before. On virtually every occasion I have met up with a Dyxumer or two and one year Bob J and I managed to get ourselves on the show's own TV channel!

But the NEC is a good 15 miles (half an hour drive / train) from Birmingham city centre and I wouldn't have thought it practical to combine a visit to the show and a Birmingham meet on the same day. The show itself, with all the events, demonstrations etc can easily fill a whole day and I try to visit everything on offer!

Brian

I agree with Brian that trying to squeeze both into a day would be impractical if you want to get full value from both. There's an event in Aberystwyth on Tuesday 19th that I'm considering, so either the Monday or Wednesday would suit me. There are some cheap deals at Travelodge around then.

I'd be up for either day. Possible stayover as well to accommodate the city as well as NEC.

Maybe we should bring a #dyxum sign with us?

The NEC has a fast train link to New street (about 10 minutes).
I'm also up for anything local, just need to fit it in with trips.

So interested parties are Howard, Brian, Bob and me... any others?
Can we settle on a day for the photo meet? I can then book my Aberystwyth event, which has limited capacity.

The only day I can confidently say I can visit the show is Tuesday 19 March.

Brian

Edit. As it happens I’m going to the NEC tomorrow, Sunday 26th, for the model railway show as I am developing an interest in photographing some of the amazing layouts and dioramas the modellers make. I suppose I should post the fruits of my labours in the macro thread as there isn’t one for miniature trains and cars.

Phil expressed an interest.

I'd be interested in booking a hotel soon; a Premier Inn standard room can be had for £39 (Birmingham City Centre (Exchange Square) - new hotel) for the night of 19/3.

If we do the Show on Tuesday 19th then I'm happy to do the Wednesday in the city centre. It depends if Alan is planning to go to the show (not on the Tuesday).

I won't be going to the show but I'll be interested to hear people's impressions. I could travel from Aber to Birmingham on the Tuesday evening, though I may get there too late for a pint

I'm not so interested in the show, but am happy to spend time in Brum - I can book for the night of the 19th if we settle on the 20th for the DM in the city.

If we ignore Scotland, the centre of England & Wales, including the Isle of Man, is adjacent to a pub in Walmley, Sutton Coldfield. It might be good for a social, but is there anything to photograph there beyond the three golf courses near by?

I think that sounds like a good name for a set '7km north west of Dunsop Bridge' if i get some time to myself for a day I may try and have a ride out to there on the bike with the camera.
