Where next in the UK and Ireland?

Even if you are by nature a solitary photographer, you are likely to get a real buzz out of meeting up with other Dyxum members to take photographs. It is fascinating to see how others tackle photographic subjects and great to actually meet the people you have been conversing with on-line.

This topic is for discussion of possible meetings anywhere in the UK. Dyxum members are invited to suggest meetings and make preliminary plans in this thread. Once you have settled on a venue and date/dates, PM me or any other admin/moderator about having a specific planned event thread set up (this makes your event more visible to other members!).

Keep an eye on regions that are near where you live and, if you are visiting somewhere that has a group, why not drop them a line in their regional thread?

anyone interested in:
- an Aug or Sep London Meet?
- an Aug or Sep Richmond Park (London-ish) shooting red/fallow deer

Thinking to the autumn,
- does anybody have any great locations in the UK to catch the oranges, I have a few local woodlands where I can snap 10-20 trees, but don't have personal knowledge of a big expanse of orange. Although there is a woodland a few miles from me that turns oragne but its a nightmare to get to and more than 50% of the time I go looking for it and get lost.

Also interested in both - would love to have a go at the deer with the 300/2.8 and lessons from "the master"! - but - I'm off to Skye for a week travelling over the weekends 11-12 & 18-19, so conflict with Bob except for 25-26 or 1-2 Sept [off to Scotland for 3wks on 07/09] - so unless then, will have to miss this one as well [typical - first summer in years that I'm away in July & Aug, and I'll prob miss 2 meets - damn!]

...as for autumn colour, when I went looking last year it seems [global warming?] that the colours don't really change until into November these days - and even then I didn't really have much success! - will be interested to hear others thoughts for locations [guess I should have a look at Sherwood!]

I'm up for a day of trying to shoot some pics of deer. August is big cats, October is 16mm only month, so that leaves November for the deer shoot? They should be rutting then.

As per advice from Bob, I'd like to start fishing (ie a sub-thread) for/of an 'expression of interest' for a meeting in the Midlands (uk) area.

Now, as far as I'm aware "The Midlands" stretch as far as Nottingham, Stoke, Bromsgrove, Warwick and Daventry. That kinda area.

However, I'm in Coventry, corner of West Midlands and Warwickshire.

I'm not even sure yet of where to go in the area. There are a few military museums around, some tall things and a fair bit of Heritage.

For example, and please correct me if you have better ideas, we have.

Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon
Coventry Motor Museum, Coventry
The Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham
Cosford Museum, Wolverhampton

I'm sure there is a Black Country Museum in the Black Country, but I'm not sure where it is. There are some ironworks / museum thingys at Telford too, Ironbridge?

I'm not a native of the midlands, but I've lived here for about 7 years. Due to work constraints I don't get to visit these, and some I haven't visited at all.

For other things, there is the Coventry Cathedral Spire which has been recently reopened at a height of 90 meters or there abouts. Which is still "very high" in my book too. Of course, you can always just stop halfway up!!! :)

There are about 3 Minolta Users I know about in the area, and of that one is enthusuastic about motor vehicles and cameras, and the other has been playing with Minoltas for decades!

Transport links. Well, we have trains, planes, busses and of course the humble car. A train is only a couple hours from London if that, but I'd think that the car would be a popular option.

I spend a lot of time out at night when I can, and here are some of my night stuff from Coventry.
