You will like it - enjoy it. And keep the A900 for the analogue-digital experience

Congrats on your new camera. A7RIV is an incredible camera and in some ways one of a kind at the moment.

Thank you. I have to comment about the ergonomics. The grip on the A7RIV is fantastic. It's better than the grip on the A900. I'm glad I got an E-mount body with the updated design. The ergonomics were one of the factors that held me away from the early E-mount bodies.

Have to say I'm finding the same with mine, might not be the same size as my "old" A99ii but the grip and button layout is making it a joy to use!
Only thing I'm finding counter intuitive is the way Sony did the rear wheel vs exposure compensation dial. In manual and auto ISO the directions are against each other if you are up against the high ISO setting. To me the exposure compensation dial should of been reversed. ![]() |

I like the lock on the compensation dial, but on my A6400 the thumb wheel is in that location, so, I keep on trying to move it when I want to change aperture.... |

the A7RIV body is generally fine where it falls down is design with the vertical grip. The VG for A900 and A99 were the best, great quality and super comfortable. So much so that I'd even go as far as saying its getting close to the levels of canikon sport bodies with integrated grip.
In case of e-mount its rather bad. Build, comfort, quality all leaves a lot to be desired. this is my main complaint with e-mount design at the moment especially when paired with 200-600mm. |

it really irks me that Sony's usability has progressively gotten worst.
IBIS not really updated since A7II, Ergonomics not the best, grips not the best, articulating screen no where as good as class leading A77/A99, LCD interface really bad, in camera focus limiter removed, EVF blackout issue. Yes the sensor and AF and the tech behind is really great but Sony really should start focusing on the finer things and tweak usability. |

The 7D must be similar to the A700. That has the best grip out of the cameras I have. I've been thinking about picking up an Alpha 7. I just found some unused film. Edited by MisterAndrew - 13 June 2021 at 23:21 |

I'm sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this kept me thinking. Do you suggest 200-600 is a bad quality lens or that combination (with a7RIV) simply shows what a7 lacks in quality? This is all a bit worrying as I am also considering a switch from a900 finally, and a7RIV was a strong contender and I was eyeing 200-600 a bit :) |

The 200-600 is a large, heavy lens.
I sometimes use a third-party grip extension on the A7RIV. It does have a better grip than previous models, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Ergonomics are not much of a priority for Sony. |
