I received an email from Sony saying I shouldn't upgrade until they checked the compatibility of the Vaio laptops - I received that email 31 July, I upgraded 30 July
![]() All seems to work as advertised - only problem I have is the right side of Youtube videos is distorted when I plug in my laptop, no problem if I just run it on a battery. Youtube commercials aren't affected, Vimeo works just great. I don't have a clue how this is possible, but I just have to unplug to watch anything on Youtube.... |

Open apps are underscored in the task bar. Nice touch (in addition to the task view).

I've updated to Windows 10 with ZERO problems.
A very nice interface. I'm happy with it. Cheers, |

Sort of Miss the 8.1 Start Screen set up. I liked the full screen scrolling of the Apps installed view, vs boing back to the 2 dimensional list of apps now .. The rest seems fine.. so far.. have it on current generation 2 in 1 a 4 year old enterprise Notebook.. and going to see how it is on an old Dell Lease return I am setting up for my mom.

Hmmm... Is Microsoft giving Windows 10 away because it's a more intrusive data mining and ad targeting engine for them?

Sybersitizen, that's why i decided to wait at least 30 days (for my second machine just to be able to do certain things when needed - i only boot this up once every month to run updates in fact and to use the vpn at work).
The article pinpoints where it goes wrong - and it provides information on how to fix it (even more thru the included links). I'll stay on linux for my main computing, it's a bit more work, but it's the way i want it, not the way Microsoft likes it - my dislike for Google and Apple is about the same way of threatment of our privacy. I don't like to being locked up into an eco-system. It's sad we still discuss Operating systems at this stage it should be a commodity that let us do our work. Show information, manage the netwerk, display and other devices and provide us with a basic gui - it should not contain any browsers, musicplayers, games or whatever and stores shouldn't be locked in by the producer of the OS - it should just work. |

A big round of applause to the guinea pigs. Thanks for being very vocal about all the bugs and intrusiveness you find objectionable. Also, please be sure to bitch loudly about all the incompatible 3rd party drivers you find that make hardware malfunction. Field engineering was ever thus. Keep up the good work.
February still seems like a pretty decent time for it all to sort out, settle down and to get the first service pack out the door. That's about half way through the freebie upgrade window, and the days are still short and ugly in the northern hemisphere so it's a good time to stay inside to upgrade. Incentives elsewhere may vary. It is a good idea for Microsoft to force security patch pushes. Threats evolve quickly these days, and they don't all come from Microsoft. We made the decision to auto download and install them early in the XP days. Of course that makes the assumption that all "security" patches are for end user benefit... |

Hi Guys, how are your encounters with Wi-Fi Sense going? Sharing your Wi-Fi passwords on Facebook. Neat huh?
![]() "Wi-Fi Sense will automatically connect you to detected crowdsourced WiFi networks, acquire network information and provide “additional info” to networks that require it (it’s not clear exactly what constitutes additional info), and can be used to automatically share your WiFi password with your contacts on Facebook, Skype, and Outlook." |

Wi-Fi sense has been on Windows Phone 8.1 for a while
I had to turn it off. It was great if I walked into a DR's Office the phone would switch to their guest Wi-Fi and if it had an accept page it took care of that without me. Where it became hell was driving around, the biggest was Comcast has been provisioning an Xfinity wifi hotspot off of people's home wifi.. it doesn't come out of their bandwidth paid for etc.. But it was there so Comcast users could find free wifi all over the place. I had to make my phone forget it.. but still had issues. Problem is with Windows Phone it would see these Comcast spots or other guest networks everywhere so as I am driving, if I stopped for too long it would log on then lose signal and put the phone in that Wifi to LTE hand off situation over and over as I drive around. It also will log you one outside of a place where there really is not much signal and trade that for your LTE.. So I am back to managing my own wifi. I think the idea is clever, but its not ready yet it needs more fine controls. First time hitting a network I would like a prompt to let me allow, or black and maybe a strength filter before it connects. |

Well you know, cliff, I'm just an "old fart"! I'm an Analog Man! Welcome to cyberspace, I'm lost in the fog everything's digital I'm still analog when something goes wrong I don't have a clue some 10-year-old smart ass has to show me what to do sign on with high speed you don't have to wait sit there for days and vegetate I access my email, read all my spam, I'm an analog man. Thanks to Joe, for that! ![]() The HiFi is solid State but its almost as old as I am! An old Dynaco Pat-4, Dynaco Stereo 120 and a pair of Dynaco A25s. Not kidding either. Sounds great! I do have tubes however -- my good old Vox AC50. That's even older than the Dynaco! ![]() |
