Congrats Matthew on a spectacular pair, must have been very special to observe a flight like that and even more exciting to get home and find such a fine photo on your card.

Also congrats to Stefano and Ine for their runner up status, two very fine photos as well.

The shot is an interesting capture; myself, I like the human element of it, with the pilot of the higher plane looking out the window.

At what? The crowd?

Turns out, I have some other angles that demonstrate that the pilot is merely looking down at his partner's plane actually flying alongside and below, as well as upside-down. The stack is an illusion.

Thanks for your votes, everyone. I'll be a proud holder of the coveted Dyxum patch!

Congratulations on an exceptional trio of images, each different, each special.
Regardless of any illusional perspective in the winner, it is an incredible image - scary looking.

Congratulations - I've tried to get shots like that at airshows, but you did - great work!

forgive me for asking (just curious ), but are you saying the action wasn't as daredevilish and scary (!!!) as it looks?
that your photo is actually a composite, constructed from more than 1 pic, 'glued' together?

It is a single picture. I'll post a couple if other shots in open views so can see that the pilot can look out and see the belly of the other plane as it isn't directly below.
