VictorV - nice winter shot and natural snow sculptures. After seeing this and your pictures of the Japanese woodpecker on the 'show us some birds' thread, I had to look up Sakhalin Island on google maps.

pdave, after being there in September it is hard to believe that the Balaton freezes over. However, it's not hard to see why your picture has figured in Dyxum's Exibition of this week. Congrats!

Winter in The Netherlands was short but very cold.

I assume this was due to Flood-freeze-thaw-refreeze?

No thaw, but decreasing water levels. The ice around the trees stayed there and the rest of the ice lowered with the water level. At the banks of the lake the ice was under an angle, really weird to see.
