The first cruise ship after a break of eighteen months. I barely had time to catch him. And against the sun.

Winners
Auckland's Viaduct Basin, where old America's Cup yachts are hung in glory. Ever since it's first entry into the America's cup, Team New Zealand has been a major innovator first introducing fibreglass hulls. Dennis Connor famously called that 'cheating'. Since then, Kiwi innovation has been the secret to our success in this competition and none more surprising than the introduction of pedal power by TNZ for the 35th America's Cup (won by NZ). This is that pedal powered foiling multihull with on permanent display, with other cup winning yachts, at the Viaduct. The Viaduct
The Viaduct is the home of the Americas Cup in New Zealand and is a great venue with lots of pubs and restaraounts plus a Maritime Museum and gift shops. Its just a few minutes walk from the CBD to the Viaduct and that makes it a fantastic lunchtime venue. This shot is looking south east toward the city from the Viaduct. 470's in Auckland
I was in the city on a nice warm day late last year and stumbled across the International 470's race held in Auckland during COVID. New Zealand had done well and were able to hold competitions so the yachties were extremely happy to see this one go ahead. City of Sails: International 470's by Michael J Breen, on Flickr Shot with my Fujica G690 using reel adapters to run 35mm film through that medium format rangefinder camera. |
