This is Oasis spotted at Ionian Sea near Zakynthos. Due to story told us by our host it used to be owned by one of the Google top executives. Its market value for today is around 50 million dollars. It has 16 crew people and can have up to 12 passengers on board. Now it is for hire for meagre 225 thousand dollars a week. Because it was sooo cheap I was ready to hire it right away but they had not credit card terminal on board. Pity.

@ Coast - just spent a depressing 45 minutes reading about the Coronado and it's procurement etc, I'd assumed it was only our Royal Navy that made such a "mess" (let's be polite!) of this sort of thing but glad to hear the USN is keeping up with us !!
Interesting ship even if it doesn't work ! Thanks for showing the pics, certainly got me interested...... All the best Richard T |

Thanks Richard, yes the high speed, highly maneuverable ship isn't turning out to be the wonder it was supposed. And one can find multiple disparaging articles about all our ships. It doesn't have propellers but maneuvering air jets that let it actually turn on a dime, it is certainly not a blue water battleship. It is probably going to find itself in the South China Seas islands, if not already as a littoral drone and helicopter platform I waited in line in the hot sun for 2 hours, but I did get a quite fascinating complete tour of the ship. Here are 2 more photos that might interest Photo I took on its heliport This was interesting, the officer in charge giving us a briefing in the Combat (War) room everything is hi-tech computer displays and such. We weren't allowed to see behind those dark curtains He said he doesn't see day light for days in there I wouldn't get too depressed. My money is on the the Zumwalt class destroyers. To me the future of Navy I was lucky enough to get a tour on this ship also. By the Commander; Captain Kirk (Star Trek, anyone) Of course this futuristic stealth design ship has multiple disparaging articles. A couple of quick facts, it has 25% radar footprint of standard destroyers and 1/2 of the crew compliment Waiting in line to take the Zumwalt tour things were much more tightlipped on the Zumwalt, we all got searched before boarding, but a thrill to be on the ship One of the benni's for being in San Francisco on "FleetWeek" w the Blue Angels Here is an article that just came out a day or so ago about the Zumwalt class getting fitted, my understanding w the latest laser cannons https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/42963/the-navys-stealth-destroyers-will-have-their-deck-guns-replaced-with-hypersonic-missiles Coast |
