As for the prices of the 35mm F 1.4 at over 2K, many of the ads seen are for the same lens but advertised in different languages and with different currencies. That still does not motivate the prices they are offered at. From what i have learned, these lenses have an aspherical element that was hand ground and this can account for very variable results attainable with them so some may be great and others, not so much.

This is a really nice one .

Over time, I have had all possible versions of Minolta/Sony/CZ 85mm's, except this Ltd version...

I am not a "one lens" person, so hard to choose really...

Thinking back of past years, I will go with the Minolta 100/2 .

I loved it's performance as a portrait lens and remember I used it frequently when looking for a discrete, convenient/compact solution.

(Tough competition from 35/2, 35/1.4's, 85/1.4's and 135/1.8 though... I loved them all )

A vote for the Sony 135/1.8 ZA from me; I seem to have had it 'glued' to either of my cameras over the last 6 months or so and the more I challenge it the better it seems to get. Of course, that is entirely subjective as I am using to produce 'my sort of images', but if they are not to please you, who on earth are they for anyway?

Take care all and best regards, Neil.

Interesting. To me this is a compromise lens. For travel I usually bring an ultrawide like the Minolta 17-35G and a short tele like a Minolta 85/1.8G. A 24-200 lens lacks on wideness on the wide end and f/stop at the mid range. But it is convenient, I give you that

I don't even particularly like the E-mount Tamron 28-200 F2.8-5.6 RXD. I still have a pretty good copy of the older Tokina 35-200 F4-5.6 SD.

Hopefully they don't check the sold listings and see they sell for $300 or whatever !

Well, if the *asking price* for clean non-G lenses is centered somewhere around $2500 (which some back of napkin math says it is), then $2300 for a *mint* G lens isn't such a bad buy...

That said, he/she still paid too much IMO, I personally love this lens, but it isn't a $2000 lens in my world, $1250, sure, $750 all day, but certainly not $3000!!

just FYI, only a broken 35mm/f1.4 with fungus and element separation would sell for $300. even five years ago, beaters were $450 and up...

shiny "new" a900 with 35/1.4, 50/1.4, 85/1.4, 100/2, 200/2.8 and 28-135/4-4.5 (plus a huge stack of other less-used Maxxum glass)

FYI , The Minolta / Sony 35mm f/1.4 G lenses sell for less than that . Do your homework if your buying , don't believe the numbers if your selling !

One sold recently , boxed , excellent condition , £343 , ebay link

Opening bid £400 , no takers yet

£520 BIY or make an offer

The US $ and British £ are about the , so same people spending $1000+ on one need their head seeing too ! Even $750 is way to high IMO .

These lenses are coming up often enough , wait and you'll get one for a fair price .

I bought my Sony 35mm f/1.4 G around ten years ago for £700 , lenses that were worth that much then are half the price now .
I've recently bought a Minolta 300mm f/2.8 and Minolta 400mm f/4.5 for around £700 , only a few years ago they were selling for double that .
It's a buyers market now , especially since Sony dropped DSLR's / SLTs .
I got a good deal on an a99ii to earlier this year , they haven't dropped much though as its the last high end DSLR for us , and there's never many for sale anywhere .

Good luck if you want to sell a Sony A mount lens though !

My favorite A-Mount lens would be the Minolta 85mm f:1.4. I own the original version and love that razor thin DOF and sharpness. All Minolta versions of this lens were optically identical.

Yes, I've noticed that here in NZ too (where A-mount was pulled earlier than many other markets). There's been some A-mount gems turning up that get very little interest despite the heavy discount. Some of them are lenses I had yearned to own before I made the move to E-mount.

It's a good choice- I had the 85/1.4 G and it gave me some wonderful looking portraits.

I remember some convincing discussion that the Limited version has different optics than the other versions.
