Okey, since the "Your night shots 1" is closing, here, I have to start a new topic - Your Night Shots 2.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, the color of the fall is fading and after this, as expected during this time of year - rains, lots of gloomy skies and more rains! Well, for me I found a brief solution on this - shoot at night or keep a close eye on the forecast and shoot at dusk or dawn when the weather allows.

....or if the wifey, allows!

So to begin with, here's a few - Downtown Seattle Skyline.

1. Raining

2. Rain Break

3. At Dawn after work...Hand held

Nice work Gene. The city seems to have expanded greatly since I was there in the 1980s.

Yes, 1980s' quite a long time a ago. :) More than 20 years...many things have change. But the Columbia Tower was finished in 1985. Well, for sure, the city undergone many face-lifts for that long period of time.

Thanks - Gene

I don't take nearly enough night shots, which is a shame because I need to learn new things in photography (thus this evening I'll do some).

Still I have this one, shot on film in september (with kodak bw400cn).

Nice shots here.
Particulary like the Seattle shots and Invar's work.

Pieter, didn't you use any noise reduction in that shot up here ?

Dirk, thanks for asking, I should probably have pointed out that I used a very mild Noise Ninja on the shot. My standard way is in Photoshop to create a duplicate layer ([alt][ctrl][shift]E) and do a standard profiled NN on that. After that I go to blend options and set overall opacity somewhere between 75 and 80 % and then set the sliders in the "blend if" part such that there is no noise reduction from 255 to 160, then gradually increasing to full from 160 to 90 and full below 90. That way you do noise reduction in the darker parts, w/o impacting the lighter areas (where there is usually very little noise).
